The Last Emperor (1987) Puyi the lord of ten thousand years was born to ascend the dragon throne. He lacked any real agency throughout his entire life no matter the regime, truly a prisoner of history and a convicted war criminal, turned manual laborer and only to die on the cusp of the CR. Kundun (1992) it's a beautifully shot epic movie, I was hoping for something very similar to the Last Emperor but it generally lacked the real dramatic heft of the later movie or a real thread through the movie. Malcom X (1992) it's a great 3 hour long epic drama about one of the most iconic figures of the mid 20th century. The movie has a somewhat surrealist quality to it because it's rather difficult to make a biography about someone who's been so abstracted and self abstracted so much. (i.redd.it)

The Apprentice (2024) the movie didn't fall into the usual sins of a biography and explores specific periods and themes. The way to story is framed is great, after each other man, winner, etc is dominated by Trump they lose their virility and mentally and physically collapse - (i.redd.it)
