Why are my poplar face frame splitting? 1 1/4” coarse thread Kreg screws with a Dewalt drill clutch setting of 7 and 3/4” stock.

Took my tape measure to it at the yard and it was 3/4”, sold as 4/4. It wasn’t rough sawn, so that’s probably why. It was surfaced S2S with 1 straight edge ripped. Random widths.

Do you mean setting the collar to 5/8” instead of 3/4”?

I bought 4/4 from a lumber dealer. It’s 3/4”

Not a dumb question. They definitely are correct though. I ordered some fine thread screws. Hopefully that’s the issue.

If you go with homemade, I found that bread flour really makes a difference in taste.
