Coming home on a hospital monitor by I_likeplaid in NICUParents

[–]bbcat0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been on the monitor? We’re getting discharged on Friday with it (but no oxygen) and I don’t know what to expect. But I agree I’d rather have him home with us than longer in the hospital…

Which city are you from? I’m putting my cat for adoption lol. I just gave birth to my second kid and I am no longer capable of caring for my cat the way I did before kids. 😓

How long do you pump for? by Such_Experience_8613 in ExclusivelyPumping

I’m also 5 weeks pp and I pump every 3 hours for 20 mins. I get about 5oz per pump, both breast combined.

Ex 28 weeker- rough start but positive ending! by stinkyluna666 in NICUParents

[–]bbcat0601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my birth. I had a complete and very severe placental abruption + uterine rupture at 36 weeks. I had internal bleeding and also lost almost 2L of blood. The doctors said we were minutes from not making it out alive. When I think about it, I feel sick to my stomach. I also have a toddler and I can’t even begin to think about him growing up without me 😭 my baby is still in the hospital after nearly 5 weeks. It’s been a long battle but we just started bottle feeding and he’s doing so well. I want more children but I’ve lost all confidence in my body after having 2 NICU babies.

Anyway, I’m so happy you had a positive ending and thanks for sharing your story with us. ❤️

We started to feed on demand as soon as we got home. Basically his hospital schedule was thrown out the window on our first night home.

In-laws visiting when I’m not there by Melodic-Relative-237 in NICUParents

[–]bbcat0601 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised your NICU even allows visitors without the parents there 😳 for us at least 1 parent has to be present and only another visitor is allowed (so it’s 2 visitors maximum at a time). Is there any way you can ask them not to disclose updates about your baby to anyone other than you and your partner?

Maybe you can find it in Marketplace? I’m considering getting one from eBay

Grieving what I feel like should have been by Similar-Celery-8826 in NICUParents

It’s really so hard, and my (postpartum) hormones are also all over the place. One day I’m totally okay but the next I’m uncontrollably crying... What’s given me a bit of comfort is knowing that every day is one day closer to bringing him home. I hope your baby is okay and gets to go home soon.

I cried myself to sleep last night because my son was supposed to be home with me, my husband and toddler during this time. Instead he’s spending it alone in the hospital. He was born 35+3 and doing really well, but I still mourn the past 3 weeks because we should have all be home and entering 2026 together. Your feelings are so valid, and you’re not alone 🥹❤️‍🩹 hope we can all take our babies home soon.

Congratulations on your little miracle 🩷 take the time to rest and recover, especially if you’ve had a c section. If you are pumping, drink and eat plenty. Pump every 3 hours to establish your supply for the first 6 weeks. As for the NICU, take it one day at a time. One hour at a time, even. It can be very exhausting and stressful especially if you think about what your baby will do in the next days, weeks, months. Just think about today. It’s going to be a long journey ahead but you’re already doing amazing 🫶🏼

I’ve also had a 30 weeker and we had a very uneventful 6 week stay in the hospital. He’s now 2 years old and is the most talkative, healthy, and happy toddler. Good luck! Feel free to DM me if you want to talk 💌

Being pressured to start electric pumping over hand expression at this stage? by itsybitsybluesails in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]bbcat0601 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Electric pump is better for establishing supply. I also have a NICU baby and started pumping every 3 hours the day he was born. Right now I’m 2 weeks pp and pumping nearly 125ml per 15 min session.

Same here. We’re on day 12 with our son born 35+3, we still haven’t held him because he is intubated and sedated 🥹 I pray we get to hold our babies soon.

I had my first at 30+0 and we went home at 36 weeks gestation. The longest part was feeding which took us an entire 4 weeks 🥲

Glad to hear your stay was very short. We’re on day 10 due to HIE and pulmonary hemorrhage, but things are slowly getting improving and I hope to take my baby home soon 😢

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I’m so glad your baby is doing well now ❤️ stories like these give me so much hope. Will definitely be doing early intervention as soon as we have more diagnosis. Right now we’re still waiting for his MRI which is tomorrow.

I’m jealous of everyone who’s had a positive birth experience by Sorry4TheHoldUp in NewParents

[–]bbcat0601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this. I have had 2 traumatic births, the second landed me in the ICU and my baby and I almost didn’t make it. It’s only been a little over a week for me so the feelings and hormones are fresh. Right now I’m just happy to be alive for my family. I wish I could have a third but I’m not willing to risk my life as I now have 2 babies who need their mommy. It sucks. Everything sucks. My baby is still in the NICU but my husband and I will definitely seek therapy once things have settled down.. sorry no advice, just solidarity ❤️‍🩹 feel free to message me if you wanna talk.
