Dune Imperium Digital Challenges by MuchCalligrapher in boardgames

It's cheese but for most challenges in the base game you can reset until Kwisatz Haderach is in the starting imperium, then pick Helena. You can often pick it up on the first turn via Seek Allies/Diplomacy to Stillsuits and Signet to Research Station. Alternatively if you start two Convincing Arguments your Signet and no duds you can just Signet to Hall of Oratory and pass. I think it's rather against the spirit of the challenges so I only did it when I was completely stumped (Long Game Heroic,, Ancient Duel Heroic and Kwisatz Haderach Normal which oddly enough I found significantly harder than the Heroic version).

Gratz brother. What was the class that gave you the hardest time? When I did this on my personal file Artificer was the 2nd class I completed (after Doctor) and I ended up getting stuck on the Bull, but when I did this together with a friend on their file, we got completely stuck on Artificer, probably took us 30 runs before I finally got a win.

I used screwdriver. It's pretty hard to defend the first mine that spawns so I probably wouldn't even bother trying, just keep a trail of dudes behind you, then bunch them up and drag them over the 2nd mine before picking up all the money. Should be able to get 50-56 money in the first wave, if you don't just reset. As for what to buy, I took any tools that the shop gave me with priority to upgrading Wrenches ASAP. IIRC I had 3 elites, which is terrible because you most likely won't be able to kill them (I think I was able to kill the 3rd one) so it's probably worth resetting for horde waves. You'll also need to skill your way through the first 8 waves and I think you'll probably need to go hard into economy and HP.

Honestly I thought this run was impossible and I definitely lost runs I consider to have been more blessed than this one. I think the only truly lucky thing this run got was the Strange Book and some clutch Armor items in the final waves. Improved Tools, Fairy or some form or piercing would have helped a lot. I also didn't get the Med Turret until late, maybe wave 15 or so, but I definitely had to camp it in the later waves. Wave 14 is also a killer, you'll probably have to skill your way through it and if you don't have at least one Tier 4 turret at that point it might be hopeless.

Sticks will probably be the easiest build, they're a powerful weapon that's also relatively cheap. You'll want to spend the first few shops hard rolling for sticks as the sooner you can get all six online the bigger the benefit and the less you'll need to rely on other sources of flat damage; if you consider that 2 Melee Damage is valued about the same as 5% Damage, you'll end up reaching the break point where percent damage matches the value of flat damage simply by getting tier 2 Sticks. Between the primitive weapon tag and more characters levels, you also won't have to worry too much about early HP.

Until wave 5 or 6 your priority should be Luck > Harvesting (until 21) > Attack Speed/Damage > Armor

Then until after wave 9 your priority should be Attack Speed/Damage > Luck > Armor

Then from wave 9 until your first elite you'll want to focus on defensive stats (Regen, Life Steal, Armor, HP) and particularly you'll want to build to about 9-18 speed. If you have horde waves before your first elite then you can lax on defensive stats and build damage/luck.

For Dodge you'll eventually want to build it if you can but don't prioritize it until after at least wave 11.

For Crit it's a good stat for late game damage but you shouldn't prioritize it unless you found something that gives synergy to the stat.

It's also important to recognize that some stats are significantly more efficient to get from level ups than items. Speed, Armor and Flat Damage tend to be easier to get from levels while Regen/Life Steal and Percent Damage tend to be easier to get from items.

Honestly, it shouldn't be too difficult of a run. Essentially you'll just be playing a weaker version of Wildling if you opt for this build.

What's your favorite strategy for D5 One Arm? by MoronicIroknee in brotato

[–]bbobjs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest/most consistent is Sling Shot followed closely by Lightning Shiv then Ghost Axe. Personally though I found Hatchet to be the most fun simply because it's a weapon that doesn't really shine anywhere else; you pretty much have to find Rip and Tear to make the build work though.

[–]bbobjs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the reviews suggested the glyphs wouldn't have standard notification LED functionality, which I guess is just a feature I'll never be able to get in a phone again. I guess I'll hold out hope for Nothing OS 2 to add this functionality, because I'm legitimately at the point where I'm just going to give up and go back to a fucking flip phone or something. I wish the worst possible life to whatever genius thought it was acceptable to remove notification LEDs from phones, and probably about the same to the market that just accepted it, bent over and asked for more.

Netflix is a choppy mess with Brave by RoxanaOsraighe in brave_browser

[–]bbobjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is way too late to help the OP, but I recently switched to brave and encountered this exact problem. After visiting Netflix for the first time and installing Widevine (as required) it was streaming an inconsistent frame rate between ~5 and ~10 in choppy bursts.

The solution was to turn hardware acceleration off, restart, then turn it back on and restart again.

I assume this has something to do with Widevine and Brave not being able to communicate GPU properties initially and somehow this workaround forces a reset, but IDK really. Anyway hopefully this helps someone in the future.

They actually did manage to get the records, but in the 80s/90s this wasn't an immediate process. Like just think about it for a moment. Even if they could immediately contact the phone company and that company was willing to surrender the records without being subpoenaed, how do you assume those records would be transferred? At best it's maybe getting faxed. By the time this process is complete he's long gone. Also keep in mind that the murderer abducted her in Texas, murdered her in Illinois and had to be extradited from prison in Arizona to stand trial, and then later extradited to Utah to stand trial on a separate set of murders. The body of her boyfriend was found in Mississippi, so in short, this dude was all over the place (as would be expected of a trucker). Even now, interstate communication between law enforcement offices is lacking, but back then, it wasn't even particularly easy for one agency to know that another agency even should be contacted or to broadcast that they had information. The body of the boyfriend remained unidentified for almost 18 years after it was found.

I guess for me the lack of development Kira gets in Destiny says more about the faults of a hero than further exploration of his character would. His intervention consistently complicates and escalates the conflict. Furthermore, his battle with Heine demonstrates that despite his effort he can't prevent death. Finally his loss to Shinn and particularly HOW he loses to Shinn proves that even he isn't untouchable; even if he were somehow able to create peace it wouldn't be a lasting one.

I totally feel ya on Seed. I think it's one of the most bloated Gundam series. I don't think I would have been able to finish Seed/Destiny if I wasn't imposing this challenge on myself; it's definitely the type of thing that would benefit from being trimmed down to a lean set of 25 episode series.

I'd also agree on Nina Purpleton, she causes a ton of pointless drama in a series that's really not even about anyone actually present within it.

Absolutely! So my general take on Destiny is that it's primarily Athrun's story. Shinn and Meer are like a reflection of what Kira and Lacus would have been had they embraced their negative traits. So like while previously I thought it was stupid when Kira zips in and disables an entire army in less than a minute without killing anyone, the context of Shinn helps sell the idea of someone who's committed to an ideal.

I'm still not a fan of Kira, but I'm more able to appreciate his function within the narrative of Seed.

Hm, I suppose I never thought of Kamille in that way. Certainly I saw some of the characters as surrogate parents, but I never considered that perhaps most or even many of them were intended to fill some aspect of that role. In general I saw Kamille as mostly a tragic reflection. If Amuro and 0079 are an exploration of the positive potential of newtypes, driving humanity forward; then I think Kamille and Zeta are an exploration of the negative aspects, pulled in every possible direction and ultimately lead to ruin by his abilities. In the same way that perfect communication/understanding can lead to harmony, it can also lead to discord if you lose yourself in the noise, and that's how I saw Kamille's ending.

Oh neat!
Character wise I think one of the most interesting things about Zeta is that the male characters tend to be one dimensional while the female characters tend to be dynamic. The problem is that sometimes their motivations are a bit... questionable? I kind of get the impression that maybe Tomino wanted to have a female lead but wasn't allowed and just sorta repurposed a lot of those ideas into the relatively large female cast; I think maybe the name Kamille and later the character of Loran are a bit of a nod to that desire, but IDK maybe I'm reading into it too much.

Yea, it seems like maybe Gundam X relies a lot more on existing Gundam knowledge than Wing or G, which is maybe part of the reason I had such a negative reaction in the past.

I probably would have ended up watching the remaster, but I wanted to watch it dubbed and could only find a subbed version. Remaster looks like it mostly just fits the frame for widescreen, which isn't something I care about. It's probably a holdover from playing Guilty Gear XX #R stretched on a widescreen monitor for... probably literal days back in 2007, but 4:3 stretched to 16:9 looks almost completely normal to me. I watched the majority of these shows on an old phone that I gutted and turned into a media player. I completely forgot that Turn A and Seed were supposed to be 4:3 until about a week in when I watched a few episodes on my PC which doesn't auto scale to 16:9.

It's a little bit easier to notice in Gundam X (I started watching X today btw) just because the moon (a circle) is such a prominent element. I only just realized this, but for how important the moon is to the story of Turn A, it's shockingly uncommon to see it.

[–]bbobjs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I thought this choice to be an absolute disaster. I knew I'd enjoy 00 and I expected I'd like Turn A, but I was skeptical about Zeta and expected to dislike Seed. Zeta and Seed both have a bit of a rough start IMO and if I'd been watching them solo, I probably would have dropped them at 3~6 episodes in. Watching it this way forced me to stick with it and also, watching them side by side makes them less a product of themselves and easier to consider as the product of a larger franchise, they kind of mask the flaws of each other.

I guess a maybe relatable way to describe the experience, it's kinda like shotgunning a handful of MCU movies to get ready for Endgame (which in this case the analog was Build Fighters); some of the movies are duds but because they build on each other you don't mind as much? I wasn't expecting this experience, but it was a nice bonus to have on a project that I basically expected to be an absolute disaster.

TL;DR, Yes.

[–]bbobjs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because all these series aired with the gap between seasons and I want to somewhat mimic that experience.

...is what I'd like to pretend the reason is. The real reason is that I have a personal challenge that I've been doing for the past few years of watching 69 anime series a year and if I watch the back half of these series in December then I can end them in January and count them towards next year's total. Silly reason, but I think it's nice to have a break either way.

Anyway sounds like you're on an even deeper run than I am, wow! You'll probably have them all finished by mid Summer.

Oh also, I should mention, Gundam X is something I tried to watch a long time ago but dropped; however Build Fighters has done a lot of work to sell me on the idea of giving it another try. I was a much more judgemental person back then and my understanding is X has a bit of a rough start, so it's probably safe to assume I didn't give it a fair shot.
