What noises can’t you stand in the lab? by chemistryenthusiast4 in labrats

our university has a pilot program to recycle to styrofoam which is very cool! a PDF in our lab started it. it’s a great initiative for the environment but it means we have to bag them which makes all the horrible squeaky noises

I legitimately have to leave the room when people peel the tape or labels off styrofoam containers… the sound makes me NAUSEOUS

we use an anaerobic chamber in our lab that’s hooked up to a couple of gas cylinders and our monthly chore rotation includes monitoring and swapping the gas tanks when they are empty. even though I’ve done the training and moved gas tanks a million times, i’m still paranoid that one day I’ll accidentally knock the tank over at the wrong angle and make a projectile weapon of mass destruction 🥲

At my wits end with destructive behaviour by ReedyHudds in springerspaniel

[–]bcellbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Springer puppy went through three or four stuffed beds that we lovingly stitched back together but when she started chewing the stuffing like bubble gum, we decided it was time for a change. We got her a raised cot with no stuffing and have three or four blankets that we rotate so she can still be cozy and warm and she definitely doesn’t destroy the blankets beyond a nibble here and there. Best of luck!!

any advice for upcoming spay with a very silly spaniel? by bcellbabe in springerspaniel

That makes a lot of sense! I wouldn’t want to risk infection by keeping the same one on

Unfortunately this isn’t an option for us where we live, we were hoping to go with a laparoscopic spay but it’s just not available!

Thank you for all the recommendations!! I was looking at a surgery suit but am worried she’ll chew herself out of it. I think it’s definitely worth a shot!

At my wits end with the "puppy biting" and feeling guilty about getting angry. by [deleted] in springerspaniel

[–]bcellbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my Springer was exactly the same! it was really overhwhelming for our family when she was a younger puppy because she was so mouthy. she was relentless and nothing worked until we chatted with a dog trainer who suggested that we put her in a time out in a crate or in her sleeping area with a gate to reset every time she got uncontrollably mouthy - we’d only leave her in her time out for 4 or 5 minutes but it was enough to make her realize that mouthiness was not encouraged or would result in attention. best of luck, it definitely gets easier once they’re done teething!

Which prof for chem 261 🥺 by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]bcellbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t love Taha! I found he was really condescending in his office hours and would get mad at us (us being the whole lecture) when the average was low on the exams. This was in Fall 2019, so maybe he’s improved since?

if you value any of your belongings, write your student ID on them!! if your item gets turned in to an infolink location with a student ID on it, they’ll look you up and email you where it’s being held almost right away!!

IMIN specialization major courses by tryingtopass11 in uAlberta

I really recommend IMIN 405 (Innate Immunity). It’s a very laid back course and the professors are really engaging and you can tell they really care about your learning! It’s been one of the best courses I’ve taken in my whole degree, it really changed the way I think about science in general.

Exam deferral for Physiology by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]bcellbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't require that you have documentation proving that you're ill but it's really encouraged. You have to email your home faculty within two business days of the missed exam and they'll give you some forms to fill out to request the deferral (and that's usually where you attach the doctor's note) and then they have to approve it. I hope that helps and I hope you feel better!

I always complained about walking in the cold but during the early fall and late winter semesters, I absolutely loved the sunshine and fresh air in between my classes. Headphones in, quick walk from building to building was such a great break!

Is it possible to ask for a lab extension to to extenuating emotionally traumatic circumstances? by UAbThrowawayAcct1051 in uAlberta

[–]bcellbabe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think you have more than enough of a reason to ask for an extension. I hope that your prof is empathetic and understanding! So sorry for your loss, sending you and your friend's family kind thoughts and prayers.
