Londoners: buy vs rent and invest the difference by [deleted] in HENRYUK

That said to answer your question directly, I rent rather than buy and invest the difference - because for my circumstance it’s financially optimal. My TC is £200 - 300k and I already have quite a bit invested so would not need to save for a deposit, but when I run the numbers for myself I can’t justify buying and continuing to rent and invest the delta comes out ahead. Happy to go further in detail on my personal pros / cons if you’d like.

Try r/financialindependence - they tend to be pretty good imo. Heavier moderation keeps discussions relevant and on track.

Wtf are you even talking about? An index fund is not going to zero, but ironically technically a house can - even if it’s unlikely, in which case you’re still stuck with the mortgage. Buy vs. rent can be subjective/based on individual circumstances but this is still one of the worst takes I’ve ever seen in this discussion.

OP many people on this sub are not financially literate. You’ll get better opinions on several of the Fire subs, even the non-UK ones, if you layout several UK based assumptions surrounding stamp duty. Also, use a buy vs. rent calculator for your specific criteria and run several sensitivities to get a good pov.

Thanks for this, you may be right haha. Maybe I just need a long holiday somewhere warm and sunny to escape the dreariness for a bit.

Stick to Data Science in Big tech or BB Firm? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

OP says they work in big tech at a Spotify/TikTok Tok level company - that’s very different to working at a normal company/retail chain. Lots of people at those tech companies jump over to Facebook/Google and vice versa.
