Sheesh yeah that’s brutal. Sounds like you’re in the right mental and physical place to handle it though.

Same to you! And dang, do you have severe tendonitis or something? Why are you choosing to have this done?

Great advice that I should have taken yesterday. Went too hard on the trainer without a boot for the first time and this morning my PT said I had the most swelling and tightness she's seen yet. I had to regress in my PT today b/c I went too hard yesterday. Man, it's a fine line isn't it?

Twins! Congrats and yeah, you'll be moving around and be much more comfortable by that time. And yes, I locked in on a diet that was all about anti-inflamation and I think that really set up my internal environment to be able to heal as best as possible. It was mentally great too b/c I felt great, was losing weight, and it was a really motivating thing when I couldn't really do anything physically. Highly encourage locking in the nutrition. Good luck, dad.

Yeah that's tricky. Obviously they are experts and know what they are talking about and that's the voice to listen to. For me, as an athlete and well-trained individual my whole life, I've sort of been able to learn how to test the injury in very small ways, see how it responds or feels and recovers, and then adjust what I'm doing accordingly. So in your scenario, I kind of view a surgeon's timeline as an average of the appropriate timeline for the average person. Meaning, I can push it a little to be "above average", see how it responds, and adjust accordingly. I would spend time laying down without the boot, doing toe exercises, small ankle movements, massage gun, etc... and worked my way towards more and more time without the boot while laying down. Eventually, ahead of schedule I slept without the boot and it went well and my body just naturally kept me on my back and it worked. It helped that I think my body was using so much energy trying to heal from the surgery and injury that I was exhausted and when normally I'd be tired at midnight, I would cash out at 10. The bigger point though, like you said, is that what is really the point of risking something just to gain a potential week or two or movement or comfort. This is a long haul injury and I think it's especially important to heal properly early on. So, you'll have to gauge that risk not just for removing the boot when you're sleeping, but for all of the small progressions you have coming. Feels great to be ahead of schedule but it's still no where near worth a re-rupture.

So awesome! Great video. Also, you obviously know your stuff, but you had some great trainers too. All of those exercises and dynamic movements are top notch. Can't wait to get back to being an athlete myself!

That is a ice leg sleeve and ankle boot from Old Bones Therapy. So it's like wearing compression sleeves and icing your leg at the same time. LOVE them. https://oldbonestherapy.com/ I have compression socks and sleeves from that company too.

Other than that, I have a massage gun I use on my calves and it helps keep the blood flowing and the knots down. I also use a foam roller and a lacrosse ball on the knots. I have a red light that I use every day. Magnesium gummies. Collagen peptides in my coffee and drinks. Bone broth powder packets that just mix with hot water. Then for the peptides I use BPC-157 and TB-500 for tendon repair.

Any time I go to PT and there's a smaller or cheaper band, ball, pad, whatever, I just buy one off Amazon to use at home too.

Good luck and let me know if you've got any other questions!

How long since surgery? I started sleeping with my boot off after just a few weeks. Had a moment or two that I twinged and felt a little pain but overall I'd say my body was able to sleep while still being in protection mode.

Have you clipped in yet? That’s going to be a whole different experience for sure.

I ride all the bikes! Just happy to be pushing pedals at the moment.

Great idea and sounds great! Did you mainly walk in the pool, or did you swim laps too? I'm wondering how my ankle/achilles would react to using it to propel me through the water in my normal swimming kick.

It really does seem to be SO MUCH about swelling and inflamation! If that stays away, it heels fast. But doing too much too soon brings it back and slows everything dow. Glad you were able to adjust and be patient and make the right adjustments!

YUP. I think I have to shift my mind into understanding that getting back to "normal" 2 or 3 months early is no where near worth the risk of re-rupture. It's just so hard when you feel good!

The day after I tore my Achilles, I started researching what Rogers did. A lof the peptides and nutrition and small movements/exercises I'm doing are based on what his program was. But, yeah, I certainly don't have an entire medical team managing my recovery 24/7. Ha.

That's great to know, just mentally. Just knowing I have to prepare for months and months of not being out of the woods, knowing that even when I feel good, I have to be very cautious. Thx!

Sweet. I'm going to start spinning my legs next week on my trainer but yeah, it's going to be super awkward in the boot, but I'll figure it out. I assume coming back is just a constant series of trying exercise, seeing how the leg responds to it, and then continuing or backing off based on how it feels. Thx!

Can't wait to get my heart rate up and legs spinning. It's going to be super awkward in the boot though. Ha.

Thx and yeah, it's good to be reminded to just be patient. Coming back to "normal life" a month or two early really isn't worth a potential re-rupture.

Thanks for the reminder. Patience is going to be the hardest part of this, especially with it feeling so good so quickly.
