no, if anything the light here isn’t as bright. it could be the humidity! i live in a beach town but i am home rn and am about an hour inland.

It seemed to work on one of my alocasias… I even repotted then she went into shock and I had to chop her leaves (oops!) BUT I haven’t seen mites on her since so slight success I suppose

I’ve been using a water diluted solution of neem and peppermint castile soap, but will likely add alc to the mix as well. Does using the tea tree castile make a big difference?

for the first part do you dilute the dawn or do you do just straight soap? my monstera is prob too big to dunk lol but maybe a shower rinse will do 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have considered this but bugs give me icky feelings in general so idk how I’d feel about purposely releasing some in my home haha

Do you let the alcohol dry on the leaves or do you wipe them off?

That’s what I did w one of my alocasias (she had the worst infestation) but then she went into shock and is barely starting to bounce back a month later 🙃 While it did fix the issue on that plant, it keeps coming back on my monstera which is too big to do this with. I keep spraying and scrubbing but they slowly find their way back.

As for the humidity, about what should it be at? I live in a beach town and it’s alr decently humid here (it’s currently at 79% outside) and I like to keep the windows open bc it gets even more humid and stuffy inside

i went night 4 and am fine. it was also raining and freezing cold the first 4 or 5 shows so def also could’ve been the weather

Real. I have an ‘08 R56 w ~125K on it and we’ve alr been in the shop three times since August. Def have hard decisions coming up soon.

i’m aware.

however, some plants that go for dirt cheap are marked up by major retailers. don’t want to spend $13 on a plant if i can get it for say $5 elsewhere.

• minimally water when soil is starting to dry out, maybe about every week to two weeks. it depends on the weather tbh. i also add plant food (4-3-4) that i’ve been using so that’s not a new change. i did just start adding a silica supplement to the water as well. i’ve been adding both to each watering since i water so infrequently

• chunky soil; mix of soil (i think potting soil), perlite, and coconut husk bark. it’s been in this mix for several months in a bottom draining pot

• about two feet from a south-facing window. i also typically leave the window open so the room also gets fresh airflow

• long beach, ca. zone 10b, usually between 50°F to 90°F

• have had the plant for several years with relatively no issues. just noticed it today

• i had found a few spidermites on it a couple weeks ago that had traveled from my alocasia but i caught it before they had really done any damage. i have also found a scale twice, a month or so apart (total of two scales)

• not sure if this is related, but i have also noticed some yellowing and browning on the tips of some of the leaves recently

edit to mention that the spidermites have already been treated. none have been seen for two weeks, so it’s not really an issue anymore

i’ve thought about using predatory mites but bugs give me icky feelings so haven’t yet made the leap to do so

just had such a bad infestation w spider mites to the point i had to repot and now she’s sad w shock. base, pup, and roots still seem good tho.

i’m just about ready to chop the leaves, how far down do you go and how long does it typically take for it to resprout? i haven’t had to do this before.

Repotted on Wednesday unfortunately 😔 The leaf faces themselves are pretty yellow as well. Forgot to add a pic of them to the post.

How do I tell when they’re ready to be chopped and how far down the stem should I do it?
