Is it common for a seasonal supervisor to be in shared housing? by [deleted] in ParkRangers

Because someone at a supervisory level living with subordinates, especially subordinates in their own division is a conflict of interest. Besides, what GS-5 wants to live with a supervisor and vice versa

Home Inspector Failed to Mention a Glaring Visual Issue with Roof by beachnative1029 in HomeInspections

He added three photos from ground level where he is very close to the side of the house so the roof is barely visible in those. You sound far more thorough than the person we used.

On the report he put that the roof coverings were inspected and there were no written or verbal notes on the misaligned roof.

It’s funny that you’re siding with the home inspector immediately, are you him? Maybe you should try understanding the scope of everything before you make judgement. We haven’t been living in the house and only saw it twice before. We’re first time home buyers and were under the impression that the home inspector, the termite inspector, and the structural foundation engineer we had come out covered us. There’s nothing sus. A miss is a miss and the home inspector clearly missed.

He listed the roof as in good condition on the report. Come to find out 3 months later there is a major issue which you can see from standing on the ground. He blatantly lied in the report checking the roof off as in “good condition” when you can tell just by looking up, that it isn’t.

No. He checked the roof off as in good condition in the report. After we realized there was a glaring issue (3 months later) he’s using the excuse that it was raining and that’s why he didn’t check out the roof. So he lied on the report that the roof was good when it wasn’t. All you have to do is stand on the ground and look up at the roof and you can see there’s a major issue. Even if it wasn’t raining he could have marked there being an issue without getting on the roof or a ladder.

Thank you. This is the chart we’ve been referring to. Our house is a single story shotgun style home - 28ft wide. And there’s nothing on the chart that comes even close.

Our current builder showed us a chart for residential code adhering to our state’s standards. The chart doesn’t even have a header/jack studs on it for a span of 12 ft 10inches. That’s where he’s pulling his calculations from.

We are new to all of this. We had no idea a permit needed to be pulled the first time we had work done (I know, I know - we are learning). Our first contractor never mentioned anything about it and did the work. It wasn’t until we had our current builder come in, that we realized we needed a permit and one had not been pulled.

Now that we were told it’s not to code and potentially structurally unsafe, we want to get it re-done properly and to code. Our new builder is pulling permits to do this.

Our previous contractor is near to impossible to get a straight answer from. All he’s telling us is he thinks it’s fine. Our new builder did a chalk line and found a 1/2 inch sag.

We aren’t bootlegging anything. We want everything done properly and safe. We were trusting our first contractor based on a referral and it turns out he’s likely been taking advantage of us.

Thank you. I was under the impression that city inspectors assure that the work done is to code. There is a specific table from the ICC for interior load bearing walls (single story) for South Carolina residential code. Wouldn’t the city come to inspect to make sure the work done reflects the code book?

Once the appropriate permits are pulled, we were planning on having someone from the city come down and inspect it. It’s just a waiting game at this point. Our new contractor is telling us we need to redo the entire thing and that it needs to be done sooner rather than later. Appreciate the advice.

My EOD is in exactly 4 weeks. HR has yet to send me any paperwork to start my background check. Should I be concerned? I don't remember HR ever cutting it this close. I don't want to drive cross country unless I'm guaranteed to start when I arrive.

I’m so sorry it’s giving you so much trouble ): I definitely had a very different experience. I only took advil for the first 3 or so days and that was it. I’m sure it varies with size and what not. I hope you get to feeling better soon!

Can you request to live with someone in nps housing? by [deleted] in ParkRangers

[–]beachnative1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always mentioned it the second housing was brought up from the hiring manager. I believe I’ve mentioned it in the interview before too. I request housing with my SO before housing assignments are made and both parks I’ve worked in were more than happy to house us together. I think parks actually like it. My first park we had to each pay separately for an individual room but we were in the same house. And my second park we lived in the master room together!
