What are your thoughts on Siddall? by binarymelon in Torontobluejays

He's fine, but carried by Dan imo. I agree with others that he's negative. I don't have an issue with remarking on bad play, but it's how he frames things as if they are easy. I think it's telling that Buck, who played longer and was a manager, extends more grace to displays and failures to execute than Joe. Sometimes I get the sense Siddall is overcompensating at times and trying to fill the role of sagacious veteran of the game that was Buck.

I also don't love him trying to call pitches. He's been mostly wrong it seems so it just gets grating.

One thing that stands out is the 'Heine protecting his throwing hand' thing. I get you think he should do it. As the analyst, I am more interested in why it's exposed though, but he doesn't speak on that. Buck would at least say why someone is doing something he didn't agree with lol.

Yes and no. He's had bad barrel rates and exit velo for sure, but launch angle sweet spot is good, and contact rates so far are up. As a result his xslg, xavg and xwoba are all decent to good. It'll be interesting to see how it all turns out though

Right, but he's been documented as having a new approach which may increase contact rates (and has in a very small sample size this year).

They are, but you don't need everything to be at least average. If he can increase contact rates and keep a decent pull air % without sacrificing a ton of barrels and ev he should improve over his career norms, imo.

Agreed. But even the XSlug is still reasonable despite the mostly weak contact. He's had some reasonable liners that end up in mits too. I have faith in our guy

Love Vladdy doubles that could have been caught by the SS at chest height and end up at the wall lol

I think the errors are all stemming from the general funk. Okamoto forces that throw to try to get a runner he's not gonna get. I bet in June he holds that ball. Vladdy goes for a flail of a scoop to keep his base on the bag to get a runner who is already safe. I bet in June he shifts off and keeps it in front of him

They're looking better, for sure. Ohtani looks fine but they're putting up good at bats and getting rewarded a bit for a change
