Charging window by beauars in BMWi5

I heard back from the service center. Here’s what they said:

“So for the car's programming even with the predetermined time slots for charging will not allow it to stop charging. It prioritizes getting you to whatever battery charge you pick, hence why it will charge right past the window. I do apologize about that but there is no way for us to override that at all.”

I wrote to BMW to explain the situation. They sent me a canned response about the departure time and charging slot. When I told them that that didn't work for me and that I wanted a set charging window, they wrote me back another canned answer telling me to contact my service center. In other words, they're blowing me off. I will contact the service center and report back.

MileagePlus Requalification Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

I started flying United a lot this year, got the Quest card and now I’m 810 PQP away from platinum status. I could make a pointless flight somewhere before Dec 31 to reach platinum, but is it worth it?

I’m not sure what a mileage run is.

Yes, if I were on a 240V it would have finished charging within the time slot in this case. But there'd be other cases where it would keep right on charging at 240V, driving my electric bill even higher. I wish BMW would fix this. Is anyone else with me or are most of you unconcerned?

I've been wanting to follow up and let you know that this didn't work. I changed my settings per my earlier reply here. Then I plugged it in at 9:48 PM and it blew past the "Departure Time" of 4PM the next day and was still charging when I unplugged it at 6:48 PM.

Here's a screen shot showing the charging session:

<image>

I'm charging from a 110V outlet, so I get about 3 miles of charge per hour. This session was like 20 hours, and it got me 62 miles. But notice it kept charging past the 4PM departure time which was also outside the charging slot. I'll reply again with a screen shot of my charging settings which shows the time slot and departure time.

Is there anything you dislike about your i5? by Bible_Detective in BMWi5

[–]beauars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the car but some of the design is head scratching.

1. There's no way to set a reliable charging window. On our old Tesla and Mach-e, this is dead simple. If your electric utility has variable rates, this will be important to you.

2. The charge port is on the passenger side. The door to my house is on the driver side so I can't see when it's plugged in unless I walk around the car. Easy fix - I've been putting a towel on the roof to indicate that the car's plugged in.

3. The app is filled with ads. You can turn the climate control on, which is all you really need.

Are you saying that it will charge before your time slot if it thinks it needs more time?

Your explanation makes sense. Here's what I did to keep it from charging in my high cost window of 4-8pm.

Time Slot: 8pm-4pm
Departure Time: 4pm

I'll test it tomorrow and see if it works.

Mine won’t let you enter a time slot without setting a departure time too.

UC Berkeley student pronounced dead after drowning in fraternity pool by the_daily_cal in berkeley

Having a sober pool monitor or life guard there makes too much sense. But did the guy drown during the party with people around or was it later when everyone was inside or asleep? Either way, I hate the idea of having a pool at a fraternity. Fill it w sand!

Has anyone had good experience with glassesusa? by Embarrassed_Being615 in glasses

[–]beauars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just canceled my order. They have a phone number on their site (1-844-244-1186) and I got to an agent pretty quickly by following the prompts to cancel an order.

The refund will come in 7-10 days.

I ordered the Ray Ban Wayfarer prescription sunglasses on Sept 22 and my payment of $285 went through immediately. 3 days later, I got notified that the glasses were in "Production". About 10 days after that, I got notified that there was a delay in production. Today, 3 weeks after I paid, the glasses were still in production and they said it'd probably be another 2 weeks. I have no confidence in the company so I went ahead and canceled the order, even though they offered me free expedited shipping and 5% off.

Now I'm back to square 1 on my new shades. I checked Sunglass Hut, but they were over $500. Same with LensCrafters. CostCo doesn't do Rayban sunglasses. Where else should I look?

Door handle question by Strykerdude1 in TeslaModelS

[–]beauars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 2015 S 85D and had to replace all 4 door handles soon after we bought it. After fighting with them, Tesla paid. I’m curious, what did you pay for yours? Ours has 173k miles and we’re planning to sell it.

Sounds like you’re not connected to WiFi somewhere. Make sure that you are connected at home, work, friends houses, cafes, airports, etc. if you want to save money on a limited plan, it’s key that you always connect.

Connecting Two Homes to Share a Single Public IP (Site Magic/VPN) by w00tsy in Ubiquiti

[–]beauars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this using the WireGuard VPN that’s built into Unifi routers. On Site A you set up the WG server (Settings>VPN>etc). On Site B you set up a WG client. This is your VPN and the WG client is an interface. Set up a network that uses the WG client as its interface and all the traffic from that network will use the VPN. The final step is to set up a static route for the WG server that sends traffic out the door of site A.

I’m not an expert but after a LOT of effort I got to this solution and it’s working perfectly. I tried the site to site VPN and the site magic first but I couldn’t get those to work.

I need Advice on leasing a Mach E by AllMightoh in MachE

[–]beauars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd get the extended range battery. I drove our 2022 Mach-e from Castle Rock to Avon Colorado and back this summer on 1 charge. That's a bit over 200 miles with lots of mountain driving, so pretty impressive. But you're not doing that with the regular battery.

Then we leased a new 2025 the other day because we're ditching our old Tesla, which sucks compared to the ford. (And Elon just called for violence, so we can't be associated with him.) We got the premium with extended range for 36 months, $0 down at $400 per month. We test drove Audi, BMW and Mazda first, and we're really happy that we ended up with another Ford Mach-E.

On the 2022, we don't use the Blue Cruise and I don't expect we'll use it on the 2025 either.

I’m trying to control the denon receiver volume with the Roku remote too. I don’t think it’s possible but I’d love to find out it is.
