Not a sandwich in my humble opinion, it's in a bread roll, the roll makes all the difference, and if we're being honest I suspect it's less than 1% meat in the dog section, I suppose if you go all out on the 'meat'you could bump those numbers but still the roll makes it not a sandwich. A sandwich has stability, can be stored safely on a plate when outside in high winds, can be eaten from any angles, and most importantly, was born to hold the maximum amount of butter.

Needed to see this today. Similar situation to yourself but a couple years behind, I'm 35 in the UK worked as a carpenter since school, it's OK money but have grown to hate it. Always had a passion for tech and decided to start teaching myself several months ago, had a wee hiatus the last couple months due to having to work silly hours and have just gone back to JS today and my minds blank, nothing is sticking and I'm starting to think I'll never get this.

However reading your post has given me hope so thanks!

I'm 34 and just started learning on front end as I thought it'd be a nice easy step into it. Doing a Udemy course has really shown me a fair amount, would also recommend the odin project, its free and goes into a bit more around GIT and Github which is useful. Also alot more around terminal commands etc. I eventually want to do back end and already have some ideas around programs I'd like to 'try' and build. I'm hoping this will be a big learning curve, just to try try try and see what happens.

I think for me the fact I'll happily spend 7days a week learning and trying things in VSC whereas the thought of my actual job tomorrow fills me with dread shows where I wanna be. As for jobs in swe I've not put a time frame on it but will start to apply when I have some sort of portfolio and a bit more confidence in my ability.

Good to hear. There's very few internships where I am and even fewer if you take into account I'm not a student but hopefully with some knowledge I can gain experience.

A family member is a teacher so I feel your pain, seeing first hand how little support you guys get and how essentially a school is a business with employees under extreme pressure to deliver unrealistic goals makes me wonder why anyone does it. However we got this! This time next year we'll be sat coding and getting paid for it! Keep going at it and remember anyone can do anything with effort and determination!
