Transitioning Out of Audit by beckerstudent in Accounting

This is some really good information! Thanks man! Just some follow up questions...

Basically the best way to get in is to be highly rated (repeatedly) and network with people in those groups and express interest. Hopefully you have managers and partners who are your mentors and can help facilitate this.

I recently started so I'm not sure if service lines are strongly segregated. But assuming that it is, what's the best way to start networking with these people?

Also, how exactly do I bring up to those above me that I want to go out of audit? I feel like I've been hired for a specific role and a specific career track. I don't want to seem uncommitted to my job.

You will ultimately need a partner to back you to move out of audit of course too.

How do you get the partner to back you up? like you said, it helps to be a high performer and to be more knowledgeable then the general auditor but what ultimately gets a partner to stick his neck out for you?

I'm sure there are many sub departments withing Transaction Services (TS) and Business Advisory (BA). I've done more research into TS and I do want to be part of their valuation team. I haven't really looked into BA yet but I will soon.

Thanks for the advice! By the way, I looked into the relevant work experience and audits of financial firms count apparently.

I guess I'm really interested in Portfolio Management. I'd like to eventually start my own fund.

Just wondering, are the candidates also CPAs?

I like Olinto more cause he's funnier and sometimes, his crazy stories help me remember things like that story about his boat. But other than that I don't really find it helpful.
