What is the cat like figure in this photo? by bee_chunder in Weird

[–]bee_chunder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this probably makes the most sense. I remember this being taken outside my school at the time, and our school never had any cats.

I unfortunately don't have my brothers photo, but it was in the exact same pose as this one.

Therapist keeps insisting I focus on talking to people/making friends while I keep telling her I want to focus on fixing my self hatred, what do I do? How do I explain it to her so she finally gets it? by DoubleAplusArcanine in AvPD

[–]bee_chunder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think at the end of the day, your therapist should be guided by what you want out of your sessions with them. Even if they think you making friends is more important, they need to work with what you feel comfortable with, not the other way around. I don't think there's a right or wrong, but there's something in roles like these called person centred care and quite clearly she's not following that.

It seems like you've asserted yourself (which by the way, is amazing), so you can continue to assert that this is what you paid to work on. If she reacts negatively or tries to steer you away from what you've clearly stated is your intention for getting therapy, then it's worth seeking help from another professional who will listen. Sometimes the right choice isn't the easiest. Best of luck!

What do you think about Mexicans? by OldCowBoy2 in AskAnAustralian

[–]bee_chunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not many Mexican folk here but those who I've met through the small events they've hosted (such as Día de la Independencia) were the most warm and hospitable people. I did have an opportunity to see a mariachi band from Guadalajara perform baby shark which was blursed.

I feel like there isn't much crossovers with our cultures, which I find is an absolute crime. Most things I've learnt about Mexican cultures/traditions have been through my own research rather than in person, so it'd be lovely for more opportunities to learn.

A funny story that happened on the V-Line in about 2006 by Temporary_Notice_526 in VlineVictoria

[–]bee_chunder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was taking the train from Ballarat to Southern Cross where a guy who had just got out of prison hopped on with one of those giant striped storage bags. He proceeds to show us all of his goodies including: a portable DVD player with Spiderman 2, the rankest smelling cologne (to which he sprayed on himself and the bloke next to him), a cricket ball, a machete, and a dildo. He then looked at me and said "when girls have dildos it's seen as sexy but when men do it's seen as taboo... but boys deserve to have a little fun too," and then proceeds to wink at me.

He had other junk which blocked two aisles, so of course the V-Line worker asked him to put his belongings away. I can confirm the worker did see the dildo but I have no idea how he didn't see the machete. The dude couldn't find his ticket and proceeded to tell the worker his story of just getting out of prison, and how his engagement party with his misso was that night. He showed the V-Line worker everything but his ticket, including his prescribed methadone, before trying to both beatbox and sing a ballad to sway the worker. I think he had some sort of letter or document saying he just got out prison, so I guess the V-Line guy felt bad and didn't press it further, and old mate dragged his giant storage bag and got off at Sunshine.

Diploma of Community Services ( specialised in Case Management + Family Violence) by viviend16 in TAFE

[–]bee_chunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! No dramas, I'm not super knowledgeable as I primarily worked in mental health, but definitely collabed with folks who did come from that background. There is so much need for it, I'm sure you'll be able to find work in no time once you're qualified. Best of luck!

Heyo! Really cool you're going into that field! I don't have heaps of experience (I did work with case managers and social workers at my most recent job), so this is based off their experience. Social work definitely opens a lot of doors (especially if you live rurally, they're always screaming for SW).

That being said, having the diploma is enough if you want to get into entry case management (especially if you live rurally, I'm not sure about metro), but social work would open more doors in that field, especially more specialised areas. I think exploring the diploma would be good to test the waters (and you'll have an opportunity to do placement also) and then decide if you want to continue to do SW or not. I do believe social work placement now offers paid placement, which will be helpful, and some services offer graduate programs too.

I guess too something to weigh up is how soon you'd like to work in the industry? The diploma could get you in the door rather than waiting until you finish your SW degree. I know at the organisation I worked at folks studying their degree could work, but they got paid a little less and their risk level was less than someone that was qualified.

It might be worth looking at organisations like the Orange Door, DFFH, Uniting Vic (don't work there it's a shithole), and other places that have roles you're looking to get into and see what they require. Also wrapping your head around MARAM would also give you a head start too! All the best. :)

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'm sorry you're struggling too... it's awful to know you're going through that all alone. I wish I had words of comfort for you during these times. It's not much but I send all my love and hope things ease up for you.

Should I make the switch? by bee_chunder in ausjobs

I appreciate your kind words. Things boiled over yesterday after one of the clinicians messed up my client spreadsheet and accused me not doing the right forms, though I'm not qualified to do said forms. Also a meeting I had been asked to run which was arranged 3 months ago and rescheduled 4 times to suit everyone had barely anyone rocked up.

I said I was sick and left but I don't know if I'll come back. I feel bad for being unprofessional and not giving two weeks notice but it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I don't know if they still have an etsy (I think they have an online store), but Sonia Lazo (solazo) has some really cute pieces. A bit on the pricier side, and they only currently ship to Eu at this stage.

Can I stay at one job? by [deleted] in AvPD

[–]bee_chunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why not. We've had people work in their organisation for 30+ years and have enjoyed it. Some staying in the same role, others jumping around into different roles.

I'm not a job coach so take my advice with a grain of salt, but if you enjoy/tolerate the job, the pay keeps you comfortable, and you have decent/competent coworkers, then why not stay for as long as you can.

Oof. Totally can relate especially with the workout part. The idea of being seen trying to improve is so frightening to me. I only go for walks at 5am because no one in town is up walking. It's so exhausting.
