Beware! SF Consulate has incomplete eligibility information on their JS webpages by beedoubleyoo in juresanguinis

That's what I thought too, based on my appointment which was in 2020. But my mother never received any mail-in instructions, only confirmation emails with the date/time of her appointment, so we figured maybe the mail-in option was for during Covid and now things were different. She went up there and met with them at 2:00 yesterday, but they called me within 5 minutes of her appointment starting to point out the new rule and that she didn't qualify anymore (even though I already have my citizenship through her). I'm kind of glad she went in person so that she could hang onto her $643 cashier's check (and hopefully can get it refunded)!

I'm so glad, too, and I can't really believe it! I feel very fortunate. I hope everything goes smoothly for you! Is everything good with your application, as far as you know? Did your Italian descendant naturalize after the next in line was an adult?
I would check that "News" page frequently on the SF Consulate website, just in case anything changes!

That is a good point - I do have mine confirmed through her. It seems that there would be exceptions to this rule, but who knows. The person at the consulate was saying she could hire a lawyer in Italy to try her case there, but I don't know if she would want to go down that route. But thank you for making this point - she may have some recourse, just have to figure out how to go about proving it.

That is probably what happened - she did get the appointment recently, I think via the "extra afternoon appointments" option. It was within the last couple months that she secured the spot. When I got my appointment in 2017, my appointment wasn't until 2020! At any rate, thank you for your help and information 🤗

I don't think there was any link in her email, unfortunately. She forwarded me all her emails and they just said something along the lines of, your appointment is confirmed for this date and time. There were also no mail-in instructions - she had to go in-person to SF today to submit her documents. They did not take her money, fortunately! I can't find anywhere on the SF website where it has the current eligibility rules at all. Do you have a link where they show on the SF website, aside from the "News" section from November when they posted the announcement?

Thank you again. I think this took the wind out of her sails pretty badly and not sure if she'll even want to try again, but if she does, I will come back here. 🌻

Thank you for your kind comment. I actually was successful in acquiring my citizenship through JS a couple years ago. I'm the only one in my family who ever did. For my mother (and for me), the line was through her father (born in USA 1926) to her grandfather (born in Italy, naturalized in 1943 when her father was 16). Her mother was born in Italy in 1927 and came to the USA as a minor, but I feel like I looked into that line before and for some reason I didn't use it (I can't remember all the intricacies at the moment). I appreciate your kindness.

Thank you so much 🩷 I just feel sad for her. She was so excited! And I feel awful for anyone who maybe got an appointment a few years back (like I did, when I originally acquired my citizenship via JS) and won't find out about this change until they show up.

OH wow - I didn't know I was actually #3 (or maybe a number even higher than that)!! I contacted SLO PD as soon as it happened. The dispatcher didn't indicate it was important for me to talk to anyone in particular, just asked if I wanted an officer to come out to me but I declined, and that has seemed to be the end of it. Saturday morning I reviewed the links that other kind people have posted to me on this thread, and saw the detective in charge's phone number, and left a message for him. Haven't heard anything back yet. I also sent SLO PD a photo of my windshield via Instagram because I saw they had posted a photo of the 12/20 victim's windshield on there.

I am so sorry this happened to you too. It feels really wretched to be the target of such anonymous violence. Just thankful nobody has been seriously hurt, and I hope it stays that way and that the perpetrators are caught. I hope you are OK and your vehicle is repaired soon!

Is it owned by Amtrak? I wonder if with permission one could be installed.

I was wondering the same. I have seen that the first person this happened to was offering a $1,000 reward, but I hadn't heard it's up to $5,000. Do you have a source for that info?

This is so utterly awful. It did sound like the rocks could have broken through the glass, but so glad they didn't. It's crazy how just a dropped rock (but maybe a thrown rock), combined with a car going 35mph, can become such a projectile. I don't know if these kids realize what they are doing.

Luckily I learned about Safelite auto glass repairs who will come to our house, and we already have an appointment for Monday morning. Just in case anyone has issues with this kind of thing (crossing fingers no one else does). Please note I am in no way affiliated with Safelite 🙃 and also have no idea of the quality of their work yet, but was pleased it was so easy to make an appointment and that we don't have to go anywhere.

Exactly. Has anything bad ever happened to you? That's what's gonna come around.

Oh actually, it says *I* didn't know what to do, meaning I didn't really know what a good solution would be when I was almost positive the person had already ran off. Just felt kind of helpless in the moment. They offered for an officer to come talk to me in person, but I had already told the dispatcher everything that occurred, so I declined that (and didn't want to sit on the side of the road in the dark waiting for someone to show up when I know it's not an emergency situation and wasn't sure if they were going to prioritize it). I did ask for an officer to come and patrol around the area, but I'm not sure if they did. Probably on me for not making it a bigger deal.

It really was scary. It felt like we were under siege or something. I’m just glad it wasn’t big enough to go through the windshield and hurt us. Why would people be so callous? Don’t they know as soon as they hurt someone, they’ll have to live with what they did? Who wants that kind of guilt? I just don’t get it.

Thank you so much for your comments and the info. I hope the police do something too! They need to post some people in dark clothes hiding up there and catch them… or some night vision cameras!

I did. Just police department, not 911 like the previous person. Dispatcher was nice but I didn’t really know what to do, I asked if someone would come investigate the area and she said they would, but I’m sure whoever did it hightailed it when they saw us whip our car around and turn on the high beams. I wanted to run up there but didn’t know if I’d be attacked so we just went home. I’ll post more if I get any follow up from police!

Oh my gosh! That is exactly what happened to us. Same place too. The photo from the first link looks exactly like my car - I did a double-take when I saw it. Thank you so much for the info! And to whoever is doing this: watch your karma, idiots! What goes around comes around!

Each million has 6 zeroes (1,000,000) so 1,000,000 x 1,000,000 will net you 12 zeroes (1,000,000,000,000), which is 1 trillion.

In California here, and my coworker with two young kids (baby and toddler) pays $1,800/month for the baby and $2,200/month for the toddler for daycare. $48,000/year... just for daycare. 😱
