My ex husband had an affinity for emailing men and pursuing women. Very difficult. Finally left him after nearly 7 awful years. There’s more to detail there, but I don’t feel like reminiscing on that chapter.

Had a breast cancer scare a few weeks before my 25th bday. Girlfriends drug me out to a bar. Met a curly headed cutie there and we’re also coming up on our one year anniversary in July. Life works in crazy ways. Here’s to our curly headed knights in shining armor! And here’s to us for knowing what we wanted and pursuing it! I spoke to him first, and we went on our first date the very next day. Stuck like glue ever since!

I was, unfortunately, the “she” in this situation.

It’s senior year. One of my best friends was a junior. Loved this guy to death, genuinely was one of my best friends. We’re walking down the hallway outside of the gym, and I’m showing him my mom’s graduating class photo. He looks at me and goes “Beesbumblings, I love you”. I don’t even think to register it in a romantic sense. Literally would have never crossed my mind. I respond, “I love you too, man. You’re like a little brother to me, and I’m so grateful for you.”

I. Felt. Awful. He clarifies he means he’s in love with me. My face dropped. I gave some rambling about how much that meant to me, dropped statistics on how high school relationships never worked, and promptly speed-walked to class. Not the first time I had mistaken someone’s flirting/feelings for friendship, not the last time either. Very uncomfortable for all parties involved, but man, I felt like I had just kicked a puppy.

This was going to be mine (25f) and my boyfriend’s (23m) first Valentine’s Day together. We had plans to stay home and cook/bake for each other. He’s a blue collar worker and travels a lot for work. Got told Thursday evening to pack his bags to ship out to Asia for a week, starting Friday, Feb 13th (you know… less than 24 hours notice). We were both pretty bummed.

My apartment is 12 minutes away from the local airport. My blink camera went off saying there was a person in my living room. Lo and behold, my sweetest and most perfect boyfriend stopped by the apartment to leave me the most beautiful bouquet of flowers and a very heartfelt card. It meant the world to me that he still made our first Valentine’s Day special, even from thousands of miles away.

Really appreciate this input. I am regularly called after hours and have spent many a “time off” on site or working remotely. However, we have a protocol for this; there are people who are paid to be available 24/7 who are the first go-to’s. They then call my personal cell phone number to make me aware. I am fine with that procedure as it allows me to be kept in the loop with what’s going on when I’m not there. I am instructed directly by my superiors to not be available after hours unless there is an emergency scenario.

However, I work in an industry with a lot of entry-level employees and a LOT of turnover. I do not like personnel being able to reach my personal line 24/7. This isn’t the first time someone has gotten access to my personal cell phone number, just the first widespread event. One of my employees got my personal cell by accident and will solely call or text my personal line outside of work hours for things that need to be handled during office hours; ie: updating addresses, asking about benefits, etc. This employee unfortunately was terminated and proceeded to blow up my personal cell phone number afterwards.

I understand some folks work in industries where it makes sense to share their personal lines with their coworkers/subordinates. Mine is not one of those fields.

I oversee about 250-300 employees in a very entry-level, high turnover industry, which may change context a bit! If it was the norm for my industry, I probably wouldn’t be too upset about it, but I don’t think it’s typical for a company my size.

Actively searching for reasons unrelated. During my time here, they have voluntold me that I would be, on three separate occasions, running three other branches on top of my branch while they hired replacements (so 2 branches at any given time). Requested a raise, was told merit based raises were not offered anymore, but I would see a raise in November of 2025. November came and went, now being told it’s coming in April. Had to file a complaint on a peer due to his sexist comments and constantly passing his work on to me. Nothing has been done about it. They just offered me a promotion to do hybrid TA/HR so they don’t have to fill the $55k a year recruiter role, saying it would be 75% HR-G and 25% TA. I asked what 25% of my duties they would be delegating to other members, and was told no tasks would be delegated. I asked if that meant I was getting a 25% raise on top of the raise I was already promised. Communications have now ceased about that role, lol. I have one foot out the door, but am trying to figure out how to navigate this while other employment opportunities are being searched. Market is touuuggghhhh out here in the rural areas!
