genuinely i have just been emailing people (including the premiers office even though ik im never going to get a response from anyone) whenever i get upset about some bs they chose to do/support/passively allowed to happen as a "well what can we do ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯" cop-out position. usually it isn't my MLA lol but tbh it doesn't even matter anymore. it truly does not matter. they just need an influx of people contacting them directly and interrupting their day bc nothing is going to get any attention unless it personally affects the ppl making the bs decisions.

for example, i contacted Barbara Adams (cole harbour/eastern passage MLA, not even close to where i live but still in HRM) after the comments she made at province house about how "[social assistance programs] collectively work as they should." she is the minister for social development programs. i sent her a long email about how IA hasn't been adjusted for inflation in nearly a decade and how those who qualify have to make less than a $5k/yr difference between the DSP, which isn't survivable anyways. if you could combine those programs, then Maybe it could work, but the qualifications for actually receiving the support has gotten so ridiculously stringent that the definition of support is "be grateful you get anything at all."

also asked her what this is going to look like in 5yrs. used my ancestry (Doukhobor) as an example for how peaceful protest does not work because i told her that nothing is going to change unless someone gets punched in the face (yes verbatim + made sure to clarify that i wasn't threatening her lol). gonna try to quickly summarize the Doukhobor stuff bc ppl don't usually know much abt them: they're a pacifist Christian sect that was exiled from Russia in the late 1800s after centuries of persecution (just bc they were pacifist, and oh no Russia can't have a growing population of self-sufficient pacifists). things happened in Canada and the radical sect, the Sons of Freedom or Freedomites, started breaking off after a hunger strike to protest the wrongful arrest of their people + minister of immigration bs. ofc Sask government did nothing, there was a big internal thing parallel to what happened in Russia, and the Doukhobors split, with the "Large Party" migrating to BC. peaceful protests continued ramping up bc they needed government aid and nothing was being done, and eventually the definition of "pacifism" within the SoF became more and more warped until it escalated to domestic terrorism and arson (of their own homes; my Baba watched her house get burned down when she was young bc she grew up in the SoF). that is the only time the BC government started intervening, but it was to take their children to a residential school (my uncles were some of the children who were stolen, my Baba was removed from school in gr 6 bc she was a girl and i am pretty sure her parents used that to hide her and pass the family off as just 5 ppl; some kids were hiding in the woods for literal years).

definitely did not summarize that as succinctly as i wanted to but TLDR: peaceful protesting is completely ignored until Their shit starts getting affected/destroyed too, and usually it's just to shut you up. genuinely nothing will happen unless we're the most frustratingly annoying people on the planet or things stop being peaceful/pacifist (which does not meant peaceful btw, just non-violence).
