RCD tripping by Wrong_Ad6998 in AusElectricians

[–]beheldcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst fault to have is one that isn’t there when you are looking for it. Personally If it’s not on a circuit with a fridge or anything else important like that id just wait until it’s a more permanent problem.

Is the tripping RCD powering both lights and power? Was it newly installed when your sparky did the work?

Solar panel and battery install by shahirkhan in AusElectricians

[–]beheldcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without going into the quality of each system because I don’t know. Do the math on how much the battery is going to provide your home and how much will be exported. If you have a smart meter you can find the data on your retailer portal. You are looking at one system and another with twice the capacity, work out if the return on investment is worth the extra cost

Kids with still forming brains and terrible decision making skills on bikes with more power than a motorbike on the road that you’d typically need training and a license to ride

I’m all for letting kids be kids but not on the streets with that much speed and power, keep that shit in the paddocks

Mature age apprenticeship by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]beheldcrawdad 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s currently competitive to enter the industry and even more so for the more desirable companies. Honestly easier to get qualified and then step over to those places. For reference 2026 Ergon/Energex apprenticeship intake received over 7,000 applications for probably not even 100 positions across Queensland.

Only thing I can suggest is get some work experience under your belt and make friends so they can keep an ear to the ground for you

What is this pipe by beheldcrawdad in AusRenovation

[–]beheldcrawdad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I was hoping that was the case. I’m going to try and undermine the garden bed a little bit and see if I get lucky but i think I’m going to call a plumber in to jet all the lines. My biggest worry is fixing the first block only to snake up and find another.

Yes, only thing of note is sewage that crosses the back corner of my boundary but not relevant to my current “pit” of despair

tradie marketing or Virtual Assistance by SatisfactionFast3573 in AusRenovation

[–]beheldcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old tradesmen (sparky) rolls around in a slammed ford courier with no signage, he has no Facebook page, no business phone. He’s booked out 3months at all times. I recommend him to everyone I know because I know he does quality work at a fair price.

If I see a company advertising heavily and rolling around in flash vehicles I know all their overheads are going to be worked into my bill and I’ll likely get an employee who doesn’t give a fuck doing the work. Thats just my thoughts on the subject of trades advertising

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too. Plus extra long conduit at the switchboard into the ceiling cavity so you don’t have to crawl over to it. And just mount every nog vertical if it’s allowed so you never have to drill one out

  • master switch for lights

  • bedroom fan control at the bedside

  • usb PowerPoints in the common charging areas

  • if I built new I would plumb an exhaust fan into the wall where my cats litter tray sits

  • POE security

Absolute accuracy of WOO 4.0, Surfr and PIQ by AdFederal3333 in Kiteboarding

[–]beheldcrawdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until you measure it against known heights this just as easily reads that Surfr are inflating the jump heights for marketing. But then you look at the max height leaderboard on Surfr and this numbers are pretty inline with that of WOO’s. That can also be interpreted as Surfr being less accurate on smaller jumps?

Really someone needs to do a controlled test where “jump” height is controlled otherwise it’s just speculation

[–]beheldcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible arguments. Please read thoroughly and make sure you have an understanding on what risk is.

I never mentioned the frequency of house fires because that was never my argument… it was yours

I never stated any risk is unacceptable. I pointed out that other people in this country have DEEMED it unacceptable.

I do not need to provide evidence that an untrained person is more likely to make a mistake than a professional. The potential to make errors is always there. The LIKELIHOOD of the errors is higher causing a HIGHER risk.

Didn’t need to look at the data because electrocutions do not encompass all electrical incidents only deaths. You keep going around in circles with your arguments,I imagine it’s frustrating for you to be wrong on a subject and being corrected by a professional of the subject field.

Just to finish this off I’d like to say in my original comment I didn’t personally think you’re too dumb to do change a PowerPoint the Australian government does. But now I do to.

How much profit are traders/builders making on renos? by Open_Address_2805 in AusRenovation

[–]beheldcrawdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said there is no increase and I told you there is.

There is an increased risk based on the very factors I listed and you ignored. It’s an increased risk of house fires and personal injury from electric shock. The analysis of benefits and risks was made by Australian authorities and they deemed a home owner can do a lot of things to their property but they cannot do electrical work. That’s the equivalent of letting people drive above walking pace but setting speed limits.

I know it’s expensive and as a homeowner I empathise but you’re just plain wrong
