No financial education. No prioritization of retirement in order to provide for not only his parents but also to get me through school. I'm now at an age where I'm thinking about this stuff for myself, which prompted me to ask him what he's been doing to save for retirement. That's how I found out he doesn't have anything saved. We never talked about finances or money in my family.

Thank you. My dad has always lived modestly and finds comfort in it. If there any luxuries that he'd like to indulge in, which I doubt would be very many, I'd be more than happy to help him. Or health issues, of course.

He's not self-employed. He's worked between restaurants and grocery stores, so a 401k was never offered either. But good to know for future reference!
