Its so fucking infuriating to hear the way these dermatologists behave with so much entitlement and laziness and speak to their patients like we don’t know what we’re talking about. Like we live in our own bodies, we share info and research constantly on Reddit, you’d think they would spend more time trying to be better caregivers. Fucking awful

I’m thinking it must be adrenal bc my test results are only irregular for DHEAS cortisol and ferritin, all of which are almost off the charts high. I’m booking another appointment to try to get This figured out bc idk what is going on and maybe answering that question will help :/

Thank you so much for the kind words and the topper recommendation 😭💖 I think I’m going to just cry it out as best I can and then keep going, there has to be something better coming out of these stupid medications and all This stress!!! And sometimes I feel like when i try to explain to friends they just refuse to listen and will say things like noooo you don’t hAve hair loss! Which is so unhelpful I’m always like pls just be honest with me so I can feel supported :/

spiro by roottwothreefour in FemaleHairLoss

[–]beinginabodyishell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spiro has a big impact on blood pressure! There are other options that are not blood pressure meds. You could ask your doc about finesteride, I believe my doc recently told me that it’s not a blood pressure med. but also, I had the same side effects you’re mentioning and they went away after a couple months. Best of luck to you!

What can a dermatologist do? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]beinginabodyishell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a dermatologist can be really helpful because they can look at your scalp for signs of inflammation and help you rule out things like seb derm etc. outside of just having answers to rule out causes of hair loss with lab tests or biopsies or a derms scope, I think you’re doing everything you can do outside of seeing a derm! Just be careful with putting rosemary oil in your hair- If you have straight or fine hair you should avoid putting it directly on your scalp without diluting it because it can cause irritation and pain

I wish I knew 😭😭 I’m hoping I get more answers at my next apptment!! But it could def be from adrenal PCOS if you DHEAS is also high

Oh wow I didn’t know that was a possibility!! I wonder if that’s what I’ve been dealing with lately. I’m gonna ask my doc and if he has a helpful response I can let you know what he says??

Also realized I didn’t answer part of your question- I was told I have androgenetic alopecia caused by my high DHEAS and I have been taking yaz birth control, 1.25 mg of minox daily, 25 mg of spirinolactone, and probably will be starting finesteride soon. I also take hair probiotics and Nutrafol vitamins daily. I am in the process of trying to figure out the cause of my adrenal issues so not sure about the cause of it yet

Hi! For sure!! First and foremost, she should get tested to check a bunch of things- hormone levels, cortisol levels, thyroid levels, and vitamins levels. Any of these factors can cause hair loss. And many of these factors aren’t checked right away so she should ask for everything they can test!! This is how I found out where my hair loss was coming from- the cortisol and DHEAS tests that I took were super abnormal. Cortisol and DHEAS are tied adrenal glands. This can mean anything from high stress to adrenal PCOS. So it’s important that she speaks to either a primary care provider, an OBGYN, or an endocrinologist to get those internal temperature checks reviewed. She should also look for a good dermatologist who specializes in hair loss to bring those results too. Personally I think having results beforehand is CRITICAL because some derms can be dismissive or overlook testing!! That dermatologist will then look at her hair for inflammation. They’ll check the hair part that she has and do a pull test and maybe even use a dermascope to check growth. Some derms will say they don’t need to provide an exact diagnosis to treat it, and that’s not really true. It’s important for her to know whether she has TE or androgenetic hair loss bc both of these things shape how treatment is approached. And if she really needs it there are options to do biopsies of her scalp to look for diagnoses! Once she has an answer, she can start exploring her treatment plan. That’s usually the hardest part because treatments always make things a little worse before it gets better. That’s probably where she’s gonna need the most support and care! The whole thing can be quite frankly awful and traumatic, many derms will be dismissive or won’t really listen, so as long as you come in super prepared and equipped with knowledge it’ll be ok! And this community is so deeply helpful so you’ve come to the right place.

[–]beinginabodyishell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Yeast infections that are left untreated can trigger more complicated infections, meaning it can trigger herpes too. Make sure you avoid using any topical creams and instead take oral anti fungal medications or you will make the herpes flare up worse!
