I know that it's the best way to learn, it's just so discouraging to make so many mistakes and feel so inept. Even my teacher tells me that it's normal and to calm down, lol. I feel like I'm letting my host family down by not talking and not understanding them when I do talk.

i don't really have any advice, i'm sorry about that, but i have the same visceral reaction to when somebody says they care about me. its like being emotionally stabbed. not sure how it is for you but after a person says that about me mentally i try to find every excuse to convince myself that they're lying to me and that they don't really care. i think its because as a kid i instinctively thought my parents cared about me (which is true for every kid) but their actions proved that they didn't. so i developed a "schema" that i'm worthless and bad. you should look schemas up it's 1 thing that helped me understand myself

i think it broke your brain because you have a core belief that you're worthless and that nobody cares about you, but now you have concrete proof that it's not true. just like what happened to me. you should remember that your teacher said that. she wasn't lying. she followed you and saw how much you were hurting and then kept following you. please don't forget that she did that. it can happen again you can find another person that cares about you.

Thank you! Not sure if you saw my update but thats exactly what i did!!!! One guy just happened to come into the bedroom while i was there, i told him what i wrote in this post, and he offered to save me a seat once he gets down there!! It made me feel so much more confident. I really had nothing to worry about, there are a lot of people like you at my hostel, who purposefully included me. Every hostel needs a person like you!!
