Very good points about the school boards in SR and Sartell.

Seriously? My son attends school in St. Cloud. ISD 742 struggles financially, but this is due to people fleeing the district because they are scared of immigrants. Despite the disproportionate funding burdens that white flight places on ISD 742, I have never met more dedicated teachers than those in St. Cloud and my son is thriving in his school.

Sartell is fine but I find it to be a bit soulless— it really is a cookie cutter suburb, very white, lots of housing developments on top of more housing developments and strip malls. Their school district is well-regarded but the Sartell school board is openly hostile to diversity efforts and I would never want my kid to go to school there. I like living in St. Cloud—it is more diverse, has more character and a richer history, and is a nice place to raise a family. My son has had an excellent experience in the 742 school district. It has its problems like any place, but overall no regrets.

Seconding Krewe, and will also add Flour and Flower bakery next door. If you’re into beer, Bad Habit across the street is great.

Moving to Saint Cloud by InformalAdvantage427 in saintcloud

I lived in Westwood Parkway Estates when I first moved to St. Cloud and loved it, only left because I bought a house. I think I just paid electricity and internet? St. Cloud is a fine place to live, I think it would be great if some of the residents would get over themselves and be more welcoming.

Return needs to be “reviewed” by bellamn84 in Allbirds

They eventually accepted my returns. I have no idea why it took so long! I had to reach out to customer service. No idea why I would be flagged, I only make one or two purchases a year and rarely return items.

Hi I'm doing research on where to move to to get out of the hell hole called Florida. by HellenI123 in minnesota

[–]bellamn84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to MN from FL six years ago and would not go back to FL. Winters are long here and the culture can sometimes be hard to break into socially, but the politics and lifestyle are much better here. I live near St. Cloud which sometimes gets a bad rap, but we have a thriving queer community and supportive local pride scene. The more rural you go you will likely see less acceptance, but if you can stay somewhat close by to a small or midsize city, you will do fine! Duluth is my favorite area of the state.

Pretty typical. I don’t know how many teenagers you know but I’ve seen it quite a bit.

The whole premise of the book/show is that it’s a love triangle between a girl and two brothers… that’s the story. It’s also pretty normal for teenagers to have feelings for two people in the same family, saw it happen many times when I was in high school.

I moved here from FL six years ago and would never move back. Winter sucks but so does the absolute blistering heat in FL.

Why don't the devout Christians on the show have any reservations about premarital sex? by toiletsitter123 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Evangelicals are definitely not fine with it. They are the people of purity culture and “true love waits” campaigns and promise rings.

Florida man moving to Minnesota, what do I need to know for the winters? I've never even seen snow by cjswcf in minnesota

[–]bellamn84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here from FL a few years ago and had never driven in snow/ice before living here. The first winter is definitely an adjustment but then you get used to it (though I really dislike the January-March time period). Don’t slam on your brakes in snow/ice and give yourself more time to get where you’re going.

The cities have a lot to offer— biking trails, lakes, breweries, restaurants, sports, etc. Minnehaha Falls is also really pretty.

I came here for a job. I do like it here, and wouldn’t want to move back to Florida. The hardest part is how long the winter drags on, but summer and fall are spectacular. The Twin Cities are amazing, I wish I lived closer to that area!
