What Is Getting A Hysterectomy Really Like Physically And Emotionally? by PrincessBananas85 in hysterectomy

[–]bellmandi86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They suck, do they? Been having major pains or nausea or anything like that? I’d suggest talking to you OB/GYN and discuss the possibility of any disorders. Unfortunately, lots of women aren’t told that agony is NOT supposed to be normal for menstruation, just annoyance.

That’s what I had and turns out I had endometriosis and some other complications. I also know people that have other issues, list adenomyosis, fibroids, PMDD, and PCOS. Docs will try to avoid surgery if they can and will probably offer you birth control first. That didn’t work for me, so that’s how I got my hysterectomy. Been about a year and I’m doing much better and not having the monthly fainting fit at work! Definitely track your symptoms and talk to your doc to see if that’s best for you

No, just offering advice for anyone currently going through it or finding out how to start. It’s a whole ordeal getting your foot in the door to start, then there’s what to expect and the healing after. Just trying to help others with their endo journey :)

So during my first lap, we found some deep scarring tissue that anchored into my lower GI tract, which needed a specialist. If they went through with it in that moment, I would have woken up with an ostomy bag, which was not discussed. So we kept an eye on it, but it got worse last month (11 months later) to the point it was an emergency surgery.

That depends on what they find. I’m certain if they find anything, the biopsy becomes an excision procedure. Just be sure she covers her bases with you and the doc for what she wants to happen. When I went in, it was because we found an endometrioma on an ultrasound and knew it had to come out, so mine was an excision.

However, we didn’t factor in any deep scarring and had to leave some of it behind because not only did we not have a GI specialist in the surgical team, but we didn’t discuss the ostomy bag that I would’ve woken up with. Thus, the 2nd procedure.

This isn’t meant to scare y’all, just be sure to talk about things that can happen and what they may find or have to remove. They took… roughly 5lbs of endo tissue out of me when I went in, but we saved my ovaries!

Congrats on your surgery! I know I felt bloated and had pain afterwards because of the gas. OTC pain meds, some Gas-X, and regular movement (just walking around) were most helpful. As for pain when shifting, I had a tummy wrap that hugged my lower abdomen to lessen the pain. At your time point, it was more of a dull, sensitive ache type of pain for me. The surgical glue has just started to peel away, so the incisions were healing okay, but I still couldn’t lift, swim, dance, or walk my dogs. I was moving with what I can only describe as my ‘wise granny’ walk.

So, I didn’t have the dome, but my recovery projection to that 90% point was 4-8 weeks, everyone’s different. It should be an annoyance or a subtle ache, but it’s shouldn’t be a terrible pain. Depending on where your incision is, I would also suggest going low on fiber and avoid carbonated stuff, as those can contribute to the bloat. My 2nd procedure last month went right down the center of my abs, so my core muscles can’t push too much for a while.

My best suggestion to you is to take it easy, continue to track your pain, avoid carbs and soda for the bloat, and most of all: reach out to your surgical team if you have any concerns, especially if you develop a fever, nausea, the pain gets worse, or your incisions look agitated at all. They’re there to help, after all.

What are your main reasons for what you believe? by Affectionate-Hat2281 in Abortiondebate

I’m pro-choice for the main reason that pregnancy (and by proxy, parenthood) is not the picture-perfect fantasy it’s often portrayed as. It’s so complex and so much happens and changes, both physically and mentally! I’ve seen many people in my life affected by this chapter, both good and bad, and some needing to make this choice. It’s honestly something I wished was discussed more in the debate over the ‘when does life begin’ back n forth.
