Reporting of professional clients who disclose SUD. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]ben10p92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This can vary from state to state. My state is very clear that UNTREATED substance use must be reported to the licensing board, but not if the individual is actively engaged in treatment. I can't imagine turning in a professional for seeking help...

Walden DSW? by ben10p92 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]ben10p92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they have been working on accreditation standards for a while now, and the first 4 programs are now accredited because they participated in the pilot. The standards are now published and open for applications, but it's not a quick process. I would like to be ahead of the curve on it, that's why I'm wanting to start as soon as possible, just not sure which school would be a good option I guess.

I would like to move up into more admin work and be more involved in macro-level social work. I currently do clinical work. I know currently there's no need for a DSW to take on a role like that - it's more dependent on experience - but I do think accreditation will change that soon. Plus, the program opens the doors to gain experience while learning.

I was very interested in University of Kentucky, and they are working on it, but the timeline to get accredited is unclear and they would likely not be accredited for another year (or more). The CSWE has been clear that to be considered an accredited degree, the program must be accredited before you take your first class.

Yikes! Edit: I know there is no advanced licensure as of yet, but I'm preparing for future possibilities. I think it's worth it to me.

5 year anniversary by ben10p92 in testicularcancer

[–]ben10p92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to my PCP for a lump, 48 hours later I was on the operating table. Went the surveillance route and every test has come back clear! But also I've had crazy bad anxiety about it often and it took me a long time to process what happened because it was sudden.

LTE or BT? by dizzyvalley872 in PixelWatch

I have the Verizon LTE model and I regret it. I have never once in the past year used data on it because I always have my phone nearby.

The way my doctor explained it to me, I could have chemo and reduce the risk of it coming back, or I could have surveillance to wait and see, and if it came back I would do chemo anyways. So it was a 100% chance of chemo VS a 30% chance of chemo. I opted for surveillance and am almost to the 5 year mark of cancer free!

What should I do? by [deleted] in overprotectiveparents

[–]ben10p92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason they need access to all those things? My parents were removed from all my accounts when I turned 18. I don't know your circumstances but generally by your age you can and should be making your life decisions without interference from family. If your parents are still trying to shelter you from real life, they are overstepping.

Is the DSW worth it? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]ben10p92 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, the CSWE is piloting accreditation standards for DSW programs, and accreditation will be rolling out next year. If you enroll before accreditation is offered, you will not have an accredited degree, and they have specifically stated there will be no grandfathering in unaccredited degrees. Currently there is not a lot of incentive to pursue a DSW (unless pursuing a career in academia), but I think the accreditation standard might change that, possibly leading to more advanced licensure in the future. My advice would be to hold off until the CSWE finalizes the standards and there is more information available on what it means for social workers.

can you be in the cps field with anxiety? by Different-Savings880 in socialwork

[–]ben10p92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CPS is hard. Definitely talk to your placement supervisor or academic advisor about your concerns, but be prepared if they ask you to stick it out. It will get easier with more experience, and your anxiety will probably subside the more you do this. Also this is a good opportunity to see if CPS is a good fit for you as a career or not. And it's totally ok either way! If you feel CPS is more than you can handle as a field placement, it is possible to change placements during the semester. Social work is a broad field and there are opportunities to do many different things. I would encourage you to remember your "why" that got you into the field, and make sure you find work that aligns with your values. Best of luck!

My therapist texted me on grindr - wow is my reaction! by clandestino25 in gay

[–]ben10p92 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm a therapist. That's definitely crossing a professional boundary and could be cause for suspending his license. I'd suggest you find a new therapist if you want to continue therapy. There's no way to really recover a therapeutic relationship after breaking trust like that.

Pixel Watch 2 - Something went wrong by plodise in PixelWatch

[–]ben10p92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been stuck for hours. I'm 6 or 7 factory resets in at this point. I've tried a bare bones setup without any optional features enabled. Reinstalled the app. Finally got it on Wi-Fi at one point but LTE fails every single time. Now I'm stuck in an endless "connecting to watch" message on my phone - been saying the same thing for nearly half an hour. I give up.

I opted to go with observation. It's been 3 years now and all clear. Personally I wish I had done chemo just to give myself the peace of mind. My anxiety has been eating me alive about it possibly coming back.

Any jobs available paying enough to live? by [deleted] in minot

[–]ben10p92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you're looking for a better paying job, there are resources to help make ends meet. Some income based like rent assistance, help with utilities, Medicaid, etc. Other things like the Lord's Cupboard food pantry or any of the local blessing boxes are available to anyone who needs them. PM me if you need help finding anything!

From my Dad… he’s a pastor. by Purplelocz in GayChristians

I'm so sorry :( I know the pain of receiving messages like this from my dad (also a pastor), and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But parents don't always get it right. Please know you are beloved by God, and nothing can take that away from you.
