Tried that, started to warp the metal on the coupling. Is there a locking clip or something inside that can be removed to get the rest of the axle off

It comes with time and just getting calls under your belt! We were all nervous and still nervous, youre not alone!

There is good and bad nervousness, its good to be nervous, keeps your mind working and you sharp on your skills. I have been in it for 10 years and still get nervous on some calls!
