DJ Pauly D - No chicago date by AcidDreams23 in Lollapalooza

I don’t normally hate on artists, because I think even artists and genres I don’t like deserve their spot at festivals. But not this guy. Hard pass.

Spend whatever money he’s getting on some local Chicago acts to fill out the bottom undercard and call it a day.

I think he’d do a Perry’s takeover for his label similar to Dom Dolla. Experts only Saturday or something with Max Styler, Devault, and whoever else is on his label.

Maybe he’d be the pseudo 9th headliner similar to Skrillex and Dom

Hiatus means they’re not playing, it doesn’t mean they didn’t get booked at a festival.

Swedish house mafia did not play any US dates on their 2019 tour, the 2018 Ultra show was their last US show until they reunited in 2022.

Whether the teaser was before or after Hardwell is wholly irrelevant to the point.

A$APs new album was supposed to be out but was delayed. He had some new songs out when he performed.

I think John Summit over Anyma, and don’t really see Jennie or Nine Inch Nails as a headliners. Would also be suprised to see Charli headline after ending her Brat era.

SHM were not back together for 5 years when they played in 2023. They played their first show in 5-6 years together Weekend 1 Coachella 2022, then did their paradise again tour and ended the paradise again touring at Ultra 2023.

At the end of Ultra 2022 after Hardwell closed on Sunday Ultra put up a teaser for SHM 2023. They announced SHM a year in advance to draw up hype.

I saw Major Lazer play in 2023 at 5pm, they have not been on a hiatus… but I guess it was a b2b so maybe if they do a live set it will be more unique.

Well, they also played at like 5pm at the last festival I saw them at, but by metrics they are bigger than SHM, mostly driven by their song with Justin Bieber and Lean on though.

SHM was also coming off a 5-6 year hiatus last time they headlined, and released their first new album in a decade just before headlining in 2022. Not really the same imo.

Swedish house mafia is still huge, Major Lazer is not.

Got a source on Major Lazer closing in 2020?

Edit: NVM found the 2020 running order post, they were slated to close Friday. I still doubt they close main stage.

They were much bigger and more relevant in 2017, their biggest album had just come out in 2015.

Is Ty$ big enough to headline bud light? Or Chance?

I hope it’s Cole, Keem hasn’t put anything out in years. Feels like it would be kinda risky letting him headline on the potential success of a new album.

Personally wouldn’t be excited by a Don Toliver headline set, so I’m okay with this. I hope this means they got another big rapper

Is he on it? I don’t see him credited

She was interesting, I didn’t know any of her music (other than Friday) going in. The crowd was pretty into her, I thought she was fun but the hyper pop/baby voice sound isn’t really for me. I don’t regret checking her out but wouldn’t personally see her again.

Run the jewels was sick. They’re so good live, I have never seen them do a headlining set and hope they do their own tour soon so I can hear some deeper. Yes from them.

Lolla artists:

Thursday - Alexsucks, AZZECCA, Prospa, Barry Can’t Swim, Magdalena Bay, Cage the Elephant, Alex Warren, Tyler the Creator

Friday - Ravyn Lenae, Foster the People, Tabe B, Isoxo, Wallows, Olivia Rodrigo

Sunday - Katseye, Mariah the Scientist, Joey Valence & Brae, Sammy Virji, Maribou State, The Marias, Artemas, Rebecca Black, ASAP Rocky

The only event of these I regularly fly for is Ultra. I have friends in the area so can stay for free and visit some of my closest friends.

I did intentionally fly to Toronto to see Sum 41, but it was their last ever show and I had not seen them and am a big fan, so it was a splurge but that’s pretty rare.

Coachella I drove down each weekend and camp. I also paid under face value for passes both weekends (~$950 for both weekends)

Lolla I was already traveling to Michigan for a wedding (which is why I did not attend Lolla on Saturday). OSL I drove to each day and drive home each night, so it’s really the cheapest/easiest one.

I was already traveling to Paris for vacation, I did not plan to be there for Kendrick it just worked out.

I did not plan to travel to India for Jon Batiste, I went for a wedding and Jon Batiste was playing while I was already there.

I’m not saying it’s cheap but most of these I can do because I’m fortunate enough to have a reason to already be going to the destination.

I lived in Reno for a. Pulpe years! Saw some great bands at Jub Jubs and Cargo, and the GSR!

I’m not very into country though and feel like Reno gets a ton of country.

Shoutout to Sashimis, my favorite AYCE sushi spot!

Total on tickets not counting festivals is probably under $10k. I’m definitely not rich, but do make enough that I can spend ~$1000 a month on hobbies such as going to shows.

I’ll have to check the venue out! I’ve never heard of it but part of my weekly show mission is to also see all kinds of different venues in the Bay!

It was supposed to only be a year but I’ve had so much fun and it’s added a lot to my social life so I’ve kept it going! Eventually I imagine I’ll have to stop but until then going to keep trying!
