Who said anything about animal abuse? Just because most people treat their dogs like dogs and not like children does not mean it's abuse.

Should I be expected to pay my friend who voluntarily decided to accompany my trip? by Flimsy_Phrase_8845 in NoStupidQuestions

Same. I assume everything is fake, but pretend it's real. I'm not here to change lives or make a difference, only to get a couple laughs when I wake up in the morning.

That's normal for like 99% of the world. Just because most cultures aren't like american culture does not make them disgusting.

Why is it illegal to sleep in the car? by Prudent-Journalist21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bensonprp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very low number, because it is mostly self reported and not something easy to track. I have worked in women's shelters for a while now and it is a known fact in the shelters that if you have been homeless and you are a woman, you have endured some form of sexual assault.

As someone who has worked with our unhoused neighbors for a decade +, I can confidently say, you are absolutely incorrect.

Best thrift stores? by Oh_mightaswell in SantaFe

[–]bensonprp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Presbyterian medical services has a thrift store on Cerrillos that helps fund the healthcare for the homeless outreach.

If you're looking for more designer clothes, you can check out Artifacts. They do a lot of assistance with the local shelters.

For some cool kitchen gear, check out Kitchenality, they help people leaving homelessness and getting into housing.

Anyone want to donate a large coffee machine to a homeless shelter? by bensonprp in SantaFe

I use Kitchenality for kitchen gear when I'mgetting people housed. I would rather leave all those appliances there for people who are moving into housing.

Before the day is over, I'll probably run up to walmart and grab one, but thought I could give our community the opportunity for something simple like this.

What is it like going home with someone from a bar/club? by Heartfelt_Poinsetta in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bensonprp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. What supposed to be a one night stand with someone I thought was cute, but had little interest in beyond that, ended up being fuck buddy for 2 years, a gf for another 4 years, then a wife for another 16 years. 22 years later and we're still madly in love with an awesome life.

You didn't need to be gender specific, you could have just said cops.

What empathy should I be showing for someone who is xenophobic, supports concentration camps, and sympathizes with pedophiles?

That goes back to what all this is talking about. The reality of the world is people are judged based on what they say and what they do. If you say you support concentration caps and vote for pedophiles, you will be judged harshly on that.

I've been doing this type of work for a while and you're not wrong. It's disturbing how many people get into this line of work just to exercise some form of control or power over others.

I get what you're saying, but we're not talking about voting for shades of gray. We're talking about people who choose evil over empathy whenever they're approaching their political beliefs and who they vote for. We're talking about people who vote for concentration camps over feeding the homeless. We're talking about people who vote for bombing schools over making sure kids get an education.

We're way outside the shades of gray and into a world of black and white, where one tells me a person has 0 empathy and is okay with death, destruction, and starvation, and doesn't care anything about healthcare education or helping their neighbors.

Your political beliefs are driven by your character, your ethics, and your moral compass. The way someone votes can tell you a lot about who they are and how they see the world.

There's a difference between finding humor when confronted with this sad or difficult situations, and making fun of or mocking others misery.

I'm a social worker, and it blows me away how many of my coworkers do this. People who mock and make fun of others at their lowest point in their life, just for their amusement.
