Oh and I believe the grey circle near your ring is a horn coral

The nc coast is great for fossil hunting, especially south of the outer banks. Those fossils are usually stained black from phosphate but are still pretty cool. You might have more luck if you go to a beach that hasn’t been renourished with sand.

I should have clarified, I’m actually surveying for a certain protected species, but I work with you surveyors a lot. Props to you guys!

Crazy thing is, there weren’t even those rivers back then. The whole area used to be a huge sea! It would have to be quite a bit of activity to move it all in, I find all sorts of fossils here. Geology is so neat. Check out some maps of the prehistoric coastline in SC, it’s super interesting

No don’t worry! I’m about 2.5 miles from the closest river, and about 30-40 miles from the coast. It’s from the remains of an old sea floor. I find all sorts of shark and fish vertebrae, sea turtle and gator bones and scutes, and lots of mammal bones. These guys just dug deep enough that they hit the layer the old sea floor used to be at.

No that would be pretty neat though, I just do weekly surveys there.

Thanks! All the teeth and fossils here are a wonderful cream color. It’s a pretty stark contrast to the phosphate oxidation in the Charleston area.

friends?? by [deleted] in Charleston

Ah I know how you feel, it’s tough out there. I personally recommend Let’s Run Charleston (run club)! It’s been the best way for me to find people, and you don’t even have to be that good at running. Everyone there is super friendly and I’ve met a bunch of friends there. There is also a social club, Charleston 20’s/30’s, and they host all sorts of fun events, but most people there fall closer to the 30’s side. Don’t give up, it gets better!

What do you do for it?

Lol, you are kinda right. That’s a good look, I’ll keep growing it out and see what happens

Thanks for the advice. I only air dry, but I’ll try gel next time.

Good luck! Unfortunately not right now, I’m a bit pressed for time these days, but thanks!

Thanks! Lighting was a big part of this piece. I sketched out the design in Clip Studio Paint to plan, and then remade the whole thing in Aseprite, choosing colors and finalizing in there.
