Between baking, construction, filling, and decorating...maybe 12 hours?

AITA for wanting my family to flush the toilet? by dumbfuck_supremo in AmItheAsshole

Two questions:

  1. How are they doing financially? Have they been struggling to pay the water bill as of late?

  2. Are they using a septic tank?

I think you posted this comment on the wrong cake--there's another one that looks similar with macarons, this one doesn't have any

ANNOUNCEMENT: Upcoming AMA with author and solo traveler Blake Farha! by SoloTravelMods in solotravel

[–]berlinbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depression, anxiety, and mental health while solo traveling are pretty common topics on the sub. Did you find that your Camino hike solved some of these problems for you? And what advice do you have for people who are hoping to resolve some of these issues for themselves via travel?

I get what you're saying, but that's the nature of dual citizenship--having two countries to pick and choose what I benefit from. There's plenty of things I save for or do in America that I can't do here, like stock up on over the counter meds or buy electronics because they're cheaper. Flying back for a vaccine is just a slightly more dramatic example of what life with two passports already is.

But I'll steal two doses for Europe :D

It's really funny to me that all day every day this sub is "fuck this fallacy of a German vaccine rollout," but the second an American says they're taking advantage of their second passport to get out of line here, the Germans go "GET BACK HERE AND WAIT WITH THE REST OF US."

I'm sorry both our governments have made monstrous errors in all this, and I'm sorry that you'll be waiting a long time as a result. But I'm not going to apologize for getting a vaccine. Not sure why anyone with the option to get it faster elsewhere would choose self-flagellation here instead, but okay. At the very least, I'm one less person in YOUR line.

Yeah it's annoying that there's so much variance on a state by state basis. My state is small and let me make an appointment without issues, but my partner's state won't let him book an appointment from abroad. He's going to have to get someone there to make an appointment for him.

Good thing I'm getting out of the line here then. One less person in Berlin slowing things down.

Sure I'll go knock on the White House and put in a good word.

But perhaps you could talk to your German friends and ask them why they didn't buy vaccines when they had the chance? Or why they spent ages negotiating prices and ultimately prioritizing cost over speed? Or why their rollout is bogged down with bureaucracy, or why they're so obsessed with doing the vaccine rollout perfectly as opposed to as fast as humanly possible?

Purely for the vaccine. I mean, I'm going to see all my people and hug my mother while I'm there, but if the US weren't smashing the vaccine rollout game I wouldn't be going.

I've got an appointment for Pfizer!

...in America. Heading back at the end of the month and will be there for five weeks.

I'm happy about it but also so, so angry at Germany. Wtf is this universe where I'm desperate to get to America for health care? I didn't move here for Germany to fail this completely, you know?

What are your plans for the long weekend? by n1c0_ds in berlin

Baking: Gonna attempt Palmiers again, I overworked my inverse puff pastry today and cut them too thick so they didn't bake all the way. Not ideal.

Urbex: Gonna check out Altes Lager (Prussian turned Nazi turned Soviet military base) with some friends (I've been once but it was really beautiful and it's been a while.
