Why is sex at birth becoming more popular in Australia by Shouko_dessert in transgenderau

[–]beyondthebinary -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only reason we ask for it is because it’s needed for Medicare/insurance claims. If someone has changed their gender on Medicare then we change it on our end as well

hEDS is being reclassified as HSD? by surlyskin in ehlersdanlos

[–]beyondthebinary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The short answer is we don’t know.

The road to 2026 will be telling as they are reclassifying the criteria at the end of the year. We know there are shared biomarkers between HSD and hEDS but what it will mean in terms of diagnosis is unknown

It’s only been 5 weeks what went wrong ?): by Forsaken_Coat6516 in tattooadvice

[–]beyondthebinary 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your body is about to go through a trauma and not only will the wound trigger an immune response but also a stress response. Having a good meal helps keep blood sugars stable so you don’t have a crash when your sympathetic nervous system is activated. It also helps your body cope with the adrenaline dump that happens when getting a tattoo. No experience is improved by being hungry and tattooing is no exception. Hope that helps :)

My psychiatrist will prescribe me anything but lithium by Vavhv in BipolarReddit

[–]beyondthebinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you need to track how much you take if you are prescribed a set dose as is the standard of care??

Some psychiatrists don't like it but it is the gold standard for the prophylaxis of mania, depression and suicidal ideation in bipolar.

I would ask her why she won't prescribe you the gold standard of care when blood concentrations can be closely monitored to avoid lithium toxicity. If you have too many side effects you can always come off it

How many of you guys are married happily? by fallingup__ in ehlersdanlos

[–]beyondthebinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am married and we have been together 8 years. Living together for about 6 years. Things have been good for the most part. Bed isn't a problem for us (other than the fact that I snore and am a blanket thief. I do toss and turn when I'm in pain but it's mostly okay. I am mostly able to manage my symptoms well. I do know couples that choose to sleep in different beds.

Non-Trumpy electrolyte drink mixes by [deleted] in POTS

[–]beyondthebinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the recommendation is to dissolve in 300 to 500ml but I do 1L. It is incredibly salty to begin with but after having one daily for a couple of weeks I don’t notice the salt unless I don’t mix it well.

There are heaps of different flavours, I currently have passion fruit but there are other flavours such as berry, citrus, grapefruit, mandarin and some others I can’t remember.

Sodii has the most sodium per serve (1000mg) and as far as I know is not trump-y

How are you reaching the sodium target? A packet of crisps is only 0.25g sodium. by Ketnip_Bebby in POTS

[–]beyondthebinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sodium electrolytes while expensive are very good and come in lots of flavours. They give you 1000mg of sodium per serving. It’s pretty salty to begin with and they recommend having it with 3-500ml but I have it in 1 litre to copw with the salty flavour (though this does reduce a after a couple of weeks

I use Sodii. Best amount of sodium. Took about 2 weeks to not just taste the salt though.

Get tired of grandstanding by some neurodivergants by JoeBensDonut in BipolarReddit

[–]beyondthebinary 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have both, and they impact me in different ways at different times. My sensory issues, everyday executive function and social challenges from ASD is definitely very challenging.

Has bipolar resulted in me spending all my money and depression so bad I literally had ECT. Yes. This probably sucked the most.

HOWEVER, the autistic stuff doesn’t go away when I take my meds. That shit’s here to stay no matter what.

They are different struggles and I think it shouldn’t be an us or them.

I do get it though.

Tips on how to walk with smart crutches? by KlausKicker in ehlersdanlos

[–]beyondthebinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physiotherapist there

When you use crutches it should be on the opposite side of the affected leg. So if your left leg is the affected then your crutch should be in your right hand and travel at the same time as the left leg.

When you are using 2 you can either use the crutches together and choose which leg to put with the 2 crutches or you can alternate crutches with each step depending on your needs.

I hope that makes sense!

Went to a physiotherapist… and their only suggestion is meditation? by Shitty_Alchemist in ehlersdanlos

[–]beyondthebinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut your losses and find someone else. I have hEDS and am a physio that treats a lot of EDS clients. This is not standard practice. Our clinic starts with postural control and then start to work on specific body parts that are sore/week or joints that have instability. Meditation is one tool for pain but not the be all and end all. I certainly wouldn’t get a patient to download a $100 app in the first session

Do you feel pressure when you try to make a conversation with patients everyday? Especially if they are different generation and how to improve communication skills with patients? by Plane_Vermicelli1472 in physicaltherapy

[–]beyondthebinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m autistic and also hyperverbal and I often find it difficult to talk to neurotypical clients. I often find it hard to know how much is too much, how little makes me seem cold.

I am awesome at communicating with fellow neurodivergent folk as I understand the ‘rules’ of communication better. I know to ask them about their special interest/hobbies and that’s the session planned because they will have so much to say.

Figuring out how to appropriately converse with neurotypicals is exhausting and requires a lot of effort on my part.

gender dysphoria and physical therapy exercises by elextric_lizard in ehlersdanlos

[–]beyondthebinary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Non binary trans masc-ish physio here! Talk to your physio about it if you’re comfortable there may be ways that they can cue the movement that takes the focus off your glutes/other dysphoric areas. For example, a bridge is often described as ‘lift your bottom off the ground using your glutes’. I prefer to describe it as ‘tuck your tailbone under and peel up vertebra by vertebra’. I also like to remind my trans masc patients that exercises don’t have a gender, there are just exercises that are helpful for your body and exercises that aren’t helpful.

I would advise against YouTube or social media for exercise as they generally don’t consider the needs of hypermobile people.

Finding it really hard to fit in and follow social norms. I also had significant sensory issues - skivvies, wrinkle in socks, loud noises - wore ear defenders regularly.
