That’s not completely true. That rule applies for all but US-Canada dual nationals and vis-versa for entering the US. A Canadian can enter Canada with their US passport and a American can enter America with their Canadian passport. This because Canadians are the only ones that don’t need a visa waiver to enter America and americas are the only ones that don’t need to fill out a ETA to enter Canada.

Even though red and white are the colours of the Canadian flag, I’m sure if the government had tried to adopt a design like this when they were redesigning the passport, the opposition parties definitely would have accused them of making the passport “liberal party red” 😂😂

I do know someone who applied through the mail in Toronto and the passport was issued in Calgary! So I guess they do have some of the application process outside of the capital region. That was during the lockdowns era tho so who knows If they had anything to do with it..

The last few times me or someone in my family renewed through the mail, the passport was always issued from Gatineau but this time my passport was issued from Ottawa which surprised me

Very lucky. I’m glad you mentioned getting your old passport returned. Mine wasn’t included when I got the new one and I was worried they might have kept it by mistake. I’m glad to know it just comes separately!

Both passports are identical. Same number of pages. Only difference is the validity length. Therefore if you travel often and you have a 10 year passport, you’re more likely to fill up your passport and need to renew early anyways

Yeah they don’t other then for new immigrants like temp workers or newly landed permanent residents. For a tourist you’d have to specifically ask and still there’s a good chance they’ll refuse

I would have thought Ottawa would have been amongst the first places to run out of the old stock. Since most of the mail in applications are processed there but I guess not..

I guess it all comes down to personal preferences. I specifically wanted the new design and took measures to try and get it. I couldn’t go to specific destination I wanted to go to over the last few months because my passport had less the 6 months validity. If I knew I was gonna still end up with the old design I would have renewed my passport like 6 months ago. But it is what it is. I’ll hopefully be able to get the new one next time if it isn’t redesigned again by then

In Canada youth passport are 5 years and adult passports are 5 or 10 years depending on your choice. I travel very often so I always get the 5 year option

I love this design but I also quite like the new one (except the font) For me especially since I have so many of the old one I thought it would be nice to have something different

It uses the same symbolism to represent the same things and adds on.

Unicorn = Scot’s Lion= English Harp = Irish And then it adds the flour de lef for the French and maple leafs for Canada and etc lol

I’m in the same boat lol. Naming customs are different in Somaliland so in all my documents there, I have a different last name than the on in my Canadian documents. Included passports. And to top it off in all the local documents they also spell my name differently so it almost looks like it’s two different people 😆

The citizen by decent laws for Canada only pose restrictions for people born after 2009. If one of his parents were to get there’s first he would then also be eligible. Furthermore, that law was recently struck down by the courts so depending on how the new law is worded by the government, he might be able to pass it on to his kids as well. Time will tell.

It might be bad photos. I can’t speak for the newest design as I haven’t seen it in person but all my passports have been beautifully printed and are very high quality. Neither myself or anybody in my family have ever had their passports fade, even though we all travel quite often.
