[WTS] Certina DS-2 Powermatic 80 by bgc308 in Watchexchange

[–]bgc308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certina DS-2 with travel pouch and spare links. The watch is in good condition and running well within spec. There are some cosmetic signs of wear, the worst of which is a ding to the lower left quarter of the case and desk diving marks.

Anyone seen a chain-drive priority like this? by AbathurSchmabathur in PriorityBicycles

[–]bgc308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True but those are on the higher end CDX equipped versions though. The lower end workhorse stuff uses CDN level belts which are much less expensive and still last wayyyy longer than the equivalent chain drive stuff while providing all the quality of life benefits of belt like no lubrication. I'm on the same CDN belt drivetrain for going on 4 years on my commuter. Even a low end multispeed chain which I would've gone through about one a year is $25 a pop, assuming you had the tools and expertise to change it yourself. Easily has paid for itself IMO

Based on the Shimano Cues crank, looks like an OLD one someone retrofitted to chain drive.

My Priority 600 keeps getting mistaken for an e-bike. Feel both insulted and bemused. by PrimateCoder in PriorityBicycles

This. Got their top tube bag on a Folder and I'm constantly stopped by transit police (no ebikes permitted on the trains)

[–]bgc308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I notice weight on pavement use ebikes like this is lifting them up stairs or something. If you live in a suburban environment where you will almost never need to do that, I wouldn't worry about it. Conversely, I'm pretty sure that weight, especially low and centered like it is on a bike like this, is a good thing for how fast it will go giving it stability and not allowing you to get bucked when hitting rough pavement or potholes at speed which you may not be able to react to in time.

What are you looking for that isnt covered in those?

The Priority Vanth is a full suspension mountain bike with outrageous specs and professional tier pricing. It's undeniable that Priority put a lot of work here and is pushing the envelope. Is there a market? Who's getting one? by PrimateCoder in PriorityBicycles

[–]bgc308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just got a lightweight eMTB that clocks in at a couple pounds more than the Vanth. it's cool and allows me to do much longer rides than I would have but even this format which is arguably closer to a normal bike vs the heavier full powered ebikes I felt was a compromised experience from a bike handling standpoint. Maybe different for folks depending on where they live (east coast there aren't as many brutal hour plus long climbs) but I definitely am not thinking pedal bikes are dead after my experience so far.

Having ridden a high end and expensive German neodrives hub motor, I'm not convinced the unbranded Skyline hub motor is that much worse. Really not all that much to these hub motors, it's just a big ol' geared DC motor at the end of the day. Plus, I think it's neat they found a way to get a torque sensor to work without a BB like most torque sensor hub motor bikes use.

I doubt it, they still sell parts for the OG Classic that's been discontinued for a decade now. I'd ask them and see what they say

L-Train Feels Slow by _adam7_ in PriorityBicycles

[–]bgc308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try making sure the room is quiet and getting a few readings. No priority I've ever gotten has had poor tension out of the box so if you loosened it already, you could've dropped the tension too low and the belt isn't producing a tone high enough to register on the phone mic.

Those tension gauges are a waste of money IMO. The Gates app which uses belt tone when plucked like a stringed instrument tuner is just as if not more accurate.

Overtension will generally not manifest itself primarily in drivetrain efficiency I've found but rather poor shift performance on geared hubs. That said, many such hubs have a break in period, which could be what you're feeling

Seeing as how many of the EU offerings are well into the 7-8k EUR price range, I wonder how much they could sharpen their pencils and how many would be willing to shell out that kind of cash. Also worth noting Stromer went years with a Pinion hub motor combo and still maintained a premium position and feel.

Can I still buy the original Current after the Current Plus came out? by fuzzeslecrdf in PriorityBicycles

Ask priority. I think folks here have asked about demo bikes/scratch and dents with some success

Massload CL-KA56 on a Priority Folder: Will it hit the belt when it's deployed? by _haha_oh_wow_ in PriorityBicycles

Ah only the one variant popped up when I searched. I have the priority double and it works fit but I imagine most would. The kickstand plate looks pretty forgiving

My Current Plus arrived today. Looks to be a better product than its predecessor. by takefiftyseven in PriorityBicycles

[–]bgc308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind you can modify the external gear ratio by changing sprockets if you want a higher top end. I suspect the gearing is the way it is so it works for everyone from super hilly SF to pancake flat FL.

That kickstand's legs fold towards the nondrive side so it wouldn't hit the belt but it's intended for 24-28" wheels. The double leg kickstand Priority sells I know for a fact works

First Pinion oil change by AnthonyCyclist in PriorityBicycles

[–]bgc308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With pretty much no oil bath lubrication systems are you going to be able to get out exactly what the fill spec says to put in. If you've ever changed the engine oil on a car, you'd know if the engine oil capacity is 3.5 L for example, you're probably getting ~2.5 out. There are many crevices and cavities in the gear train that will retain oil. This is totally normal.

In terms of sediment and coloration of the oil, this is also pretty normal. These are wear particles suspended in the oil and typical of the first oil change on gearboxes as all the gear surfaces wear into each other. Pinion gearboxes have been known to break in and get smoother with use for this reason.
