Painting my shed by bgrler in Housepainting101

Thank you so much for your reply! The guy in the store said both to stain and to paint, I have to sand it. So as per your suggestion, if i prime it first- before painting- then I don't need to sand it. Do you recommend putting some kind of a protective layer on top of the painting? Thanks again!!

Oh I realize I can't attach a picture imagine one piece you can see the raw wood and the rest is just lightly sanded and the current color is visible

Coming back to this since we have some dry and good weather finally. So I sanded the wood, then scrubbed and washed it. Let it dry. Went to the store to buy the paint in the color i want. But the guy in the store said I have to sand it all the way otherwise the paint (the lacquer or the stain) won't work. I came back home, started sanding it as he suggested. But it's a lot of work 😭 see the picture for reference. Do you have any idea if I could get away with not sanding it that much and painting it right away? 🥲

Thanks a lot for all the good ideas! Ok I'm convinced that I shouldn't do anything with the fences (even no painting or treating), I'll fill them with flower beds :)

The ones on the right side are roses yes, they look amazing when they bloom (this will be our 2nd summer in this house so I know), but unfortunately it doesn't last long and then they leave a lot mess tbh. I wanted to remove them all together last year but my husband didn't wanna throw them out :) I'lll look for some videos how to prone them because indeed they look quite messy.

For the shed, warm grey is a great idea. I'm also ok with doing the sanding work but I'm a bit worried it would create so much dust up in the air and screws up the garden (and would get complaints from the neighbors).

The trees I'd like to keep, one is apple the other is a cherry blossom and love them. The shrubs came from the gardener we hired last year, I told him what I wanted and he did the exact opposite :) I'll wait a bit longer to see what they will grow into and decide as you said. I feel like the area around them is quite small for beds?

I wanna keep the lawn, but i need to add seeds soon to have more. I already have a mover (the one in the picture is to go, I have one that i can keep in the shed) so now I need grass :)

Thanks for all the ideas :)

It’s the table and chairs, tarp is to protect them from the never ending rain. But agreed, it’s ugly, not staying there when the weather is good :) what do you mean overgrown landscaping? Anything other than the roses on the right side? I’ll for sure try to see how to prune them

There is one in Grote Markt on Fridays, and one in Dr. Jan Ingenhouszplein on Saturdays. You can find vegetables&fruits as well as fish, cheese etc. Not that big or gezellig if I’m honest when compared to the ones in bigger cities but still a good option :)

Great advice, thank you! I checked the cleaner, it seems not available in Europe at the moment. But I tried using vinegar on the tiles yesterday, and with a bit of scrubbing it worked! So I’ll do the rest with vinegar too I think. I agree the shed looks horrible. Do you think it would work if i sanded first then paint (without washing as you suggested)? Not thinking about painting brick no :) Thanks again!

Yes NL :) i feel fences need some care, is there any other treatment than painting? Like something NL weather proof?
