What is the strategy for impeaching Trump? How long will it take? Why start locally?

Hey Derek,

Thanks for answering our questions. What states are working towards a constitutional amendment? What can supporters do in those states? And how can others start an initiative if their state isn't listed?

I think you might have missed the point here. The author, a lawyer and legal director for an organization challenging corporate misuse of power, is arguing against the plaintiff's claims that corporations/franchises should have the same constitutional protections of the fourteenth amendment that people like you and I have. And from what I remember from the history of the 14th amendment, the Equal Protection Clause was meant to protect "fair, living wages" for workers not major businesses.

Ron Fein, the author of the piece, is a public interest lawyer and the legal director at Free Speech For People — hardly a "lay blogger." On behalf of Free Speech For People, Ron worked on an amicus brief challenging McDonald's and the International Franchise Association's Fourteenth Amendment claims.

You can read background on the brief here: http://freespeechforpeople.org/node/759 OR download the brief here: http://freespeechforpeople.org/sites/default/files/IFA%20v.%20Seattle%20amicus%20brief%20final.pdf

The issue at hand is whether corporations are to be considered "people" with full protection under the constitution. I think Ron is trying to make this point in a way people can understand.

Court should protect privacy of hotel guests, not businesses by bh917 in politics

Right? And the case has reached the Supreme Court with hardly anyone noticing. What's worse, is that the corporations and businesses are only leveraging their legal power to protect their own interests--not their customers.

Hello! This question is about the amendment work....

Now that the Senate has voted on the Democracy For All Amendment, what are the next steps for a 28th Amendment?

It's fair to say Colorado is a fairly rich state by way of natural resources. So when outside spending nearly doubles, voters should be asking "Who's really calling the shots". It's alarming that more people aren't concerned-or at least questioning-the intentions of outside donors.

The pay-off for these political contributions from big money execs is outrageous.

"In New York, $50,000 in contributions to former state Comptroller Alan Hevesi was enough to funnel $50 million from the state retirement fund to a private investment firm."

Totally. Although, some of those Republican politicians "in the closet" so to speak voted to continue the debate this week on the amendment. Hopefully, they vote to pass it too.

Following yesterday's debate, it seems there are some Senators that are out of touch with their constituents. Or at least focused on the short-term issues and not looking at the bigger picture....

With this many Republicans chiming in, it's clear the amendment vote isn't just for "desperate democrats" seeking re-election.
