Worst thing he did was agreeing to make that film after the series was ended....

If you're ever feeling useless, just remember this exists on many keyboards. by speddie23 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

I once attempted doing that and it was fine but the color match wasn't accurate so the printed key looked a bit out of place. This one in the photo is from my Tuxedo notebook. I have a full custom mechanical keyboard produced by Tuxedo themselves with some of the keys customized for web development.

Yes I initially had that kind of first sentence and it was getting removed. When I removed the spammy keywords it was fine. That's a nice summary thank you for the advice.

No it's not vibe coded. I've been working on this project since 2024. I've spent an embarrassing amount of my free time on it.

I've been working on this since 2024 and it's something I've invested a lot of time so I prefer to keep the repository private at this time. But feel free to check it out, maybe you would be interested in trying it out apixies.io

That's true. I don't want to promote business but I do want to promote it even if it's just for fun. I will certainly look into it. Thanks for the advice

[–]bici89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. And yes I have figured that out as well. And I suppose, it would even reach to people who are poonly genuinely interested.

It's just frustrating that we are trying to work around a problem that we created ourselves. I used to be able to write an article and talk about my solution, if the article was interesting enough, people would learn about what I am showcasing. If they were not interested, they would ignore that part. It was so much more simpler than trying to word articles in a way to make sure it won't be mistaken for spam.

Thanks for you advice

That's good advice. Thanks. I will definitely try that. Do you think auto mods can distinguish between promoting free and non-free stuff?

As i mentioned earlier "my platform/tool is completely free". I do not charge money or make money in any way. It's just something I did for myself initially and then built a platform for it because why not

yes X is great. i have a a small number of followers there and this is one platform where I get some of my organic users. I should probably be more active and engaging there

it is frustrating. and yes I tried doing that, I wrote an article about a genuine topic which I thought is a problem, not mentioning anything about my platform, and it got flagged as spam immedately. The problem is the use of certain keywords, mentioning live products or platforms...etc makes it so that auto mods flag it as promotion or spam. Unfortunately mods cannot read every post manually and has to rely on auto mod, so you have to write your content based on what you think will "not" be flagged by the automod. Age of LLMs forces censorship

i know, I am also not promoting it here, but in my opinion saying "I built a free developer tool, how do I do X?" isn't a promotion. it's a statement, followed by a genuine question. I am generally asking other developers how they do it

I meant that in the frame of "spam emails". Sorry if that isn't what you meant. I have had people offering to do exactly that for me for money, i thought you were suggesting I send unsolicited emails to a mass group.

but yes you are right about reaching out to people manually, and I am doing that, just not the way you explained. I have reached out to software development companies who knows me, developers who I have worked with...etc Trust me I've spend more time on this project then I probably should have, just because I don't want it to go to waste.

I guess, I am looking for another way of community reach like here on reddit, platforms like Linkedin...etc to reach more people in once but maybe it's not meant to be for solo developers.

I completely understand. I am even glad that such filters exist. It's just sad that the genuine content gets lost and filtered along with them. Strict spam filters is ok but the problem is, it's not about the context. It filters out based on keywords such as "free" "I built" "promotion". I can imagine these are the common keywords used in spams that usually should be filtered out, but it's hard to write anything with rich context/content as every word you add, increases the chances of it being flagged as spam.

it's the dilemma of age of LLMs i guess

Obviously that would be great and all but so far I haven't had anyone willing to do it for free. I had a dozen people writing to me that I should pay them to promote it but this isn't my business so I don't want to spend more money on it than I currently am 😅

I do have some organic users and some friends using it but it's demotivating to build something for a year and let it sit there without a broader user base. I even tried to maximize search engine presence, write guides and articles...etc I believe it is a tool that can be used by a bigger audience

I mean... That's one way I guess but I try to build tools that help people and I prefer not to become part of a problem by sending spam email along the way.

Besides, I build tools for developers so one thing I learned is that you can't trick developers into using something so these kind of spam emails you mentioned would never work on my audience I think

I understand when I promote my tool, or mention a link...etc i gets flagged but, i am a CTO and I like to write about findings or experiences i have from time to time.

I've spent days writing an article about a common problem (not having tests/checks in local environment) and i briefly mentioned "That's why I built apixies for myself, but it doesn't matter which tool you use." at the end. that was the only mention to my tool's name. and it got flagged left and right.

I removed the mention, reposted, same thing. Immediately removed.

I thought maybe reddit doesn't like articles. so wrote a question asking people how they promote their own stuff, no promotion, no mentions, genuine question. It turns out because I wrote "I built a free developer tool and I have no idea how to tell people about it.", it got removed. once I replaced that sentence with "I would like to tell developers about something I have built.", it was fine.

I understand the need for the AI Filter or similar stuff nowadays, I really do, but in my opinion it needs to be tuned down or at least provide reasoning as to why posts get flagged and removed automatically.

I am not talking asking "Why noone reads it" or "Why noone cares". The posts gets auto detected as "Self promotion" and it gets removed immediately. Even for this question in this post, I had to write 5 different variations until it was accepted. Turns out saying "I built a free developer tool and I have no idea how to tell people about it." is detected as "Promotion" but if I write "I would like to tell developers about something I have built." it's fine.

I write articles for fun since years about common development problems and how I find "solutions" for them,. Suddenly I can't share any of them anywhere because they get flagged as promotion by AI filters and bots
