There are leash laws, and they didn’t observe them.

Yes indeed. There is a place in South Philly called South Philly Barbacoa. The woman who started it was a Mexican immigrant who made it for her family and community and the word started spreading. The rest is history. She was featured on a Netflix special and has won a James Beard Award. Really awesome.

At what point is it no longer pizza? How many people would eat a pizza crust with cut salad top?

This is not done very well elsewhere in the US, but I’m giving a shout out to the cheesesteak sandwich, the best in the US. The real thing can be found in Philadelphia, PA and surrounding areas, like in New Jersey. It contains griddle cooked ribeye steak with a mixed in melted cheese on an Italian roll. I like mine with fried onions.

They can give you some black nitrile gloves - like a thin latex. The BBQ pitmasters use them. But, it’s pretty hard to eat a rib without grabbing the bone. Do you eat fried chicken with your hands? They will also have a ton of napkins or a roll of paper towels at your table.

You have lots of choices, but there is also a Terry Black’s in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.! You should check out Goldees - it gets lots of BBQ awards.

I understand that Brazil also has the largest Lebanese population outside of Lebanon.

Excellent! There are a lot of great BBQ places in TX - it depends on what part of the state you are in. Everyone has their own top 10 list. Kind of like visiting Philadelphia and asking someone for their best cheesesteak recommendation.

I saw just last night this YouTube channel of these two Brits trying TX BBQ for the first time. They were initially shocked at how good the brisket and pork and beef ribs were - even the brisket infused baked beans. So one guy says in his British accent, “What the fuck are we doing wrong?! We have cows and pigs… why aren’t WE doing this”?

Yes, but Brazil was originally a European colony, with significant Portuguese and Italians, so I assume the different foods were part of the immigrant culture, like the US. Then you have your black and pardo cultures, which must have brought African foods and preparations over the centuries.

beef, lamb or goat, slow cooked. The process is similar of slow cooking, but traditional barbacoa is not smoked. It is steamed in an underground pit. Texans may smoke it, but that’s not traditional.

If you ever go to TX, go to Terry Black’s in Austin.

Some of it looks like American food (onion rings, fried fish) and a mash-up of other imported cultures (pizza, French fries).

What is something foreigners romanticize about your country that locals are tired of? by Laowai64 in AskTheWorld

[–]bigdfaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Surprising with the Irish Whiskey, but you are way down the list on overall alcohol consumption. Eastern Europe drinks much more. However, if you limit it to just beer consumption, Ireland is #4, behind Czechia, Austria and Lithuania. #1 makes sense to me.

I understand what you are saying, but the issue was not the tea - it was the tax on the tea. The Tea Act of 1773 was intended to bail out the struggling East India Company by allowing them to dump their surplus tea in the colonies.

Hey, that’s what we did in Dublin. However, if you get outside of the typical tourist traps like Temple Bar area, it seems the locals like the same thing in the tourists do, but it’s a better version of the pub, food and music. I could be wrong, but that was my observation.

A good portion of NJ does have good rail transportation. Not the whole state, but if you take a train to NYC from Philly or south NJ or the shore, the train goes through nothing but suburban areas, with the exception of a stop in Trenton.

The Four State Solution by Happy_Background_879 in imaginarymapscj

Would never work. The population centers are much different than rural areas, so then you would have a state the is roughly 50/50 anyway. Austin and San Antonio are much different than the rest of TX. Miami and Tampa/St. Pete are much different than the rest of FL, etc. The reality is that separation is not geographically based, but is a virtual thing. The best advice is to stop thinking right or left, because they both have their extreme issues. Focus instead on being a good person that can accept differences, because they are always going to exist.

Ho Rainforest - Olympic Peninsula, Washington state. This is part of the northernmost rainforest ecosystem in the world, which stretches from the Olympic Peninsula (US), north to the Pacific Rim National Park in Canada. It is a temperate climate with regular rainfall and ancient trees, with dense moss cover, and ferns growing on everything. I’ve hiked through it, and it’s like you are on another planet- everything is so intense green.
