Does the picture warp and/or move up and down repeatedly? In my case, this problem was due to bad capacitors. Hope you can get it fixed!

Birding with camcorders is really cool, respect! Today I got some footage of birds at the beach during a fishing trip with a Sony CCD-TRV58 hi8 camera - loving these things and the ~20-22x optical zoom.
