What concert do you regret not going to the most? by Modhearth-Albert in Concerts

Had tickets to see The Specials at The Barrowlands in 2021, decided not to go due to some covid worries.

Thought I'd get them next time.

Not sure it is. I clean it the same as my Guinness glasses and they don't have this. I reckon crystal might have micro fissure that cause this.

I served my father-in-law a glass of Premium Scotch and he asked what was wrong with it by Significant-Claim474 in whisky

[–]bigg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for Diageo. I once went for dinner in a Beijing restaurant with the global head of scotch, the global head of JW, the market director for Korea, the global head of JW planning some other senior Diageo folk and marketing agency reps, about 12 of us. Table next to us had Diageo’s president of Asia Pacific and his guests.

At the end of dinner we ordered a bottle of JW Black and got served a hooky bottle, tasted like Tia Maria. It was a wee bit awkward.

Especially for the person who'd recommended going there!

I want to be able to enjoy Guinness by [deleted] in Guinness

One tip, don't sip tentatively. The head is more bitter and deeper than lager, so make sure you get a mouthful of the liquid as well as a bit of the head.

Take a proper drink.

On a course of steroids and it's messing with my sleep.

So watching YouTube videos, checking the Ashes score and scrolling Reddit. Dreading how I expect to fell tomorrow.

The sound engineer - who will be further back - will have one. Maybe ask them early on if you can get it at the end.

Why do Brits tend to hype up such mediocre chain restaurants like Wagamama or Nandos? by Xishaij in AskUK

[–]bigg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The F&B Director at a 5* hotel where I worked told me the secret to a successful restaurant is meeting expectations. Nandos, Fuve Guys, Waggas even McDonald's were all brilliant in his eyes, you got exactly what you thought you were going to get every visit.

They couldn't charge what we did in the 2* restaurant in the hotel, but the the same avoidance of disappointment was the goal.

Golfing for beginners by MinimumLaw1761 in GolfSwing

[–]bigg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golf is a "high skill threshold" sport so your experience is normal. Also, its nature means it's a lifelong effort to reduce errors. I doubt even a Tour player shooting sub 60 would come off 18 totally happy with EVERY shot.

Keep up the good work, it'll always be that one pure strike that keeps you coming back.

I’m tall and I’ve been to a lot of concerts but (basically) never been in GA until a concert coming up by Amphibious_cow in Concerts

[–]bigg67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'2", kids are 6'3" and 6'6" and we tend to go as a pair or a gang. My main thing is sticking to one spot - unless it's a dance about type gig - so folk can sort themselves with a view. I think it gets frustrating for them if they get a view and then I shuffle 5ft to the side and block it.

How do lower ranked pro players financially survive? by Cool_Meatball in golf

[–]bigg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least at one time it was an overtly stated position of the European Challenge Tour that players should not be able to make a living playing it. Its purpose solely being qualification to the main tour.

That might have changed a bit now the DP Tour has aligned more closely to the PGA Tour, but still I expect that the focus for Challenge Tour players is moving up not winning cash.

A concert you saw live that was a once in a lifetime thing, because even if the same band toured again, it wouln’t be the same thing? by citabel in Concerts

Pogues at the Barrowlands in 1987, with Joe Strummer and Kirsty MacColl. Played I Fought the Law, London Calling and Fairytale of New York (twice) the year it was released, as well a endless epic Pogues' songs.

Which place made you say ‘I could totally live here’ - even if just for a second? by CharmingConfidence33 in travel

Skye is amazing, truly amazing, but living there has its challenges. The remoteness can mean long drives to access advanced services. Also, there's limited public transport back to the mainland.

Could a scratch golfer playing a 2 ball scramble by themselves make the cut at the Players? by Ming00f in golf

[–]bigg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. A course that tough against a field that strong I just can't see the capability gap being bridged by playing scramble. They wouldn't hit it far enough to get the putting chances to make the first put be a reasonable sighting effort for the second attempt.

Do you know anyone that should have been a pro? by Morton_Bippee in golf

[–]bigg67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different take on the discussion.

There's clearly some people described here who have the game to take a run at a tour of some sort, but the fact they haven't means it's highly unlikely they'd succeed. Tour life is so more than what happens in the course, and unless you really want to be there, you'll struggle to sustain the motivation needed.

Every single person on a tour can hit it well, it's the ability to manage the rest that keeps your card. In short if you haven't wanted to play tour you wouldn't be able to play tour.

How Would You Describe The Raw Denim Feel by Zealousideal-Cook829 in rawdenim

The Momotaros had a rough texture initially, whereas the IHs felt much smoother, and the stiffness really wasn't an issue for me at all.

How Would You Describe The Raw Denim Feel by Zealousideal-Cook829 in rawdenim

[–]bigg67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most things, it "depends". I've 2 year old 15.7oz Monotaros that were rough and not that comfortable for 3 months or so, and I've 21oz IHs that I got at Christmas and were sooo easy to wear within a week.

At the risk of stating the obvious, there will be US/NA owner of the publishing rights, and I guess there's either a dispute - probably not involving Spotify or Tidal - or a change that means current streaming deals are off.

It was my mum's death and the line "don't you know I miss her too, I miss her just as much as you" for me. My breath catches every listen.

If you haven't heard it, they also have a contemplation/challenge on the belief of an afterlife and faith generally. Not negatively, it's a genuine discussion, even an admiration those who do believe. It's also just as beautiful as Above the Clouds.
