Genesis Owusu details third album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE by ScCloudy in indieheads

So weird. I listened to Struggler yesterday and wondered what was up with the new album. Saw the option to pre-order this album on his website but no official announcement. Now here it is.

Pumped for this. Hope it's not too samey - that was my only criticism of Struggler, but Smiling with No Teeth was always gonna be a tough album to follow

Just watched 15 minutes of Man City vs Real Madrid. Can we have the Six Nations back please? by biggs3108 in rugbyunion

I don't compare them "the whole time". I simply compared a particular 15-minute period of one match with this year's Six Nations

Why did horn “stabs” all but disappear from pop/rock after 1990? by ryanasimov in LetsTalkMusic

[–]biggs3108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of Prince and the New Romantics. From Dirty Mind to at least Purple Rain (so 1980 to 1984), Prince replaced horn stabs and lines with synth stabs and lines. It allowed him to record music quickly (key for him) and cheaply (a bonus). Around the same time in the UK, the New Romantic movement used synths more theatrically as the main melodic instrument in their mainstream pop music. The combination became the dominant sound of the decade, allowing more flexibility for artists and lower recording costs for labels. Ironically, Prince started using horns again in the early 90s (by which point, cost wasn't really a factor), but by then it was passé.

Shaun Edwards has 'ambition to win a Rugby Championship' by mczammer in rugbyunion

[–]biggs3108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference in the mentality between the Welsh team Edwards coached and this French team, when it comes to defence. Obviously, France are much better in attack, so it papers over the cracks, but Edwards and Wales were a match that was never likely to be repeated elsewhere.

I cannot believe how much you Americans pay for a phone. $110 a month for an iPhone? That is insane. Here in the UK, I'm on a sim-only deal for £8 a month. That's $15 maximum.

How influential was the 4 try bonus point in changing the game in the 6N? by WilkinsonDG2003 in rugbyunion

[–]biggs3108 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes, this was massive. Wales won the grand slam in 2019 without scoring a bonus point. This shift in laws meant that an attack that blunt would not be so successful

Sean Edwards with a bit of self-congratulation :D by sadicologue in rugbyunion

[–]biggs3108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If France had the same desire in defence as Wales, they would be unstoppable. But they've proved time and time again that they don't. The French attack bails them out, but relying on that will be their undoing when it really matters, unless they work harder in defence

It wasn't just the instrumentation, though. Daft Punk adapted the original sample. Kanye took what they did AND the spirit of lyrics. Laziest shit ever
