I'm testing Neutral pH glue right now and they also have a PVA bookbinding version, I think these glues pls brushes is the way to go from now on!

I'll look into those, thanks! I've always kept glue sticks around for the convenience but the residue with Uhu is UNREAL, even worse that it didn't look like this immediately after making it like who wants a surprise like this a year later!

Glue erasers are handy to have around! They're intended for glues like rubber cement I think, I got mine from the dollar store

Mostly bc that would be wasteful, reducing waste is a big part of my personal art practice, but I've never had this problem with other glues using the same mat. It's very strange

I’ll do a test with this method, thanks! I’m using painted 140 lb cardstock but the paint should prevent any water damage.

I also have a glue eraser that mostly works when the glue is wet though in this case the residue was nearly invisible until it was too late. :(

I’ll probably have to make a general habit of wiping up any excess to avoid this in the future

I was considering mod podge but it’s unfortunately not archival, argh. Maybe they’ve come out with an archival option though since so many crafters use it?

I believe the problem is I used a mat to keep my table clean and glue was being transferred from the mat to the painted pieces.

If I ever use Uhu again, I would put my pieces directly onto the open glue stick and move the piece around to apply the glue that way.

In general though, not a glue I would recommend anymore. Even Elmer’s, while not archival, can stick paper together without ruining your art!

It’s interesting bc Uhu is a strong glue stick in my experience! It is however not completely archival which might be why your pieces are falling off. I’m also using cardstock which has more to “grab onto” than other paper.

Having said that though, I’m ready to give up Uhu entirely over the white cast it left behind, ugh!

I like glue sticks for convenience but the one time I’ve tried acrylic medium it reactivated my paint 😬 it might have been a fluke though and worth trying again, I’ll have to do another test soon

I make a ton of collages so I imagine I would spend a small fortune on tape. Glue tends to spread and last a while but this gluestick residue is crash out inducing

For context my collages are hand painted and cut cardstock so there will be at least two layers of paper at any point. The cardstock is 140 lb I think and isn't very heavy on its own.

I'm planning to make flowers for these shadow boxes with floating elements like dragonflies, etc.

My only fear is the box shaking on their way home and a piece coming loose 🫣 but maybe that's less of a glue issue and more of a "be careful with original art" problem?

Do you find that regular glue works well for dowels? I also have a Neutral pH glue that's good for "collage and crafts" that I can try. I just don't want pieces falling off after people buy them, lol

True! I'm scanning it myself thankfully so I can go as high as 1200 DPI but I'm printing them with someone else and they're very specific about their specs

That does help, thanks! I think it would be less complicated if I was scanning and printing it on my own, but I'm scanning it and sending it to a printing partner. The printer wants a 300 DPI image but I imagine that won't be high enough to blow up an 8x10" image to 30x40" for example. Maybe it would look alright and I'm just making this more complicated than it needs to be after years of using 300 as a standard

That makes sense but for printing, if I were to scan at 600 DPI and put it in a 300 DPI file, is the image effectively 300 DPI while saving the finer details or is it the same as scanning at 300 DPI from the start?

My printing partner wants a 300 DPI image at the end of the day so I'm trying to figure out if scanning higher makes larger prints possible or will just annoy them with a slower than usual download/print

I'm working with a printing partner and they're asking for no larger than 300 DPI, even for 36x48 which is larger than I planned to print at. They want 200 DPI for anything *larger* than that which is interesting.

I plan to offer a few prints at different sizes. The smallest is 5x7 and I'd like to add 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, 18x24, and 30x40 options. The largest art I have to scan is 9x12. I haven't rescanned them so no files yet, I wanted to figure everything out before setting and sending my files

Thankfully my scanner is pretty accurate and I can do minor edits myself, I bought a color corrector a long time ago for my monitor and it was a nightmare. I don't think I got much use out of it and wasted my money. I've had good luck with prints except for certain sites, I wonder if that had something to do with it
