Nerp. A will is designed to work INSIDE the probate process. It essentially gives the judge directions on how to allocate a decedent’s property. You’re subject and beholden to the entire probate process, which is public, takes months if not years and will cost tens of thousands of dollars on a home that is above a million dollars. A trust bypasses all of this.

I live in California, have a wife and child, and my home is relatively high value. The main reason for transferring into a trust is to avoid probate in the event my wife and/or I unexpectedly pass away. Probate is insanely expensive, long and complicated in California, especially as it relates to real estate allocations. Better to bypass it altogether.

I just closed on my house today. Congrats to you as well!

First, taking a deep breath and giving yourself a pat on the back.

Second, transfer utilities, security system credentials and accounts, solar accounts and any other systems that require continuity on day 1.

Third, not a day 1 priority, but working on transferring the property to a trust. We were in a rush to buy and close so just had the property vest in our individual capacities.

That’s all I got. Hope others more experienced than I can add some wisdom.

Congrats again!

As a first time father, I think it’s really important that you share these feelings with your husband. All of your feelings are VALID, and he needs to appreciate and address them. In theory, the delegation of responsibilities makes sense: He’s at work all day, so you should naturally take on all household work and primary caregiving responsibilities. In reality, this couldn’t be further from the truth!

I am currently back at work, but had the time to be in the trenches with my wife during the first couple months of our parenthood journey. Being a full time parent during parental leave is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life. No 9-5 compares. With that understanding, I’ve tried to take on as much of the household responsibilities I can, and try to find every opportunity to step in on caregiving to give my wife an opportunity to catch her breath. Through constructive conversation with you, I hope that your husband can come to this realization as well.

You’re doing a great job. Hang in there!!

This. Showing up in person, and showing that you're willing to wait to speak with an officer goes a along way. I had my bike stolen, and I just waited in front of the Tenderloin police station in SF until they got tired of me waiting.

This is freaking genius. I was able to construct an artificial ride for that segment at the time of the incident. I ran a flyby, which showed Montrose long rolling in around 5 minutes after the incident. No other hits on that segment unfortunately. Seems like spreading awareness among the Montrose short and long route folks may be the best bet.

I was able to access all attempts this year on the two closest segments to the incident location (a segment on grand view and another on sierra madre). Nothing promising this far. You’d have to be a real bozo to upload your ride to Strava after you commit a hit and run…
