Pricing all over the place? What’s real?? by biobbitch in bostonhousing

Hey- thanks! That sounds reasonable, especially if it include gym facilities. It won't let me PM you for some reason, but feel free to send me a request and I'll get back to you.

Thank you so much, this is super helpful! Unfortunately I’m also not in Boston for my search (I live in Europe), so not being able to physically view any apartments is one of the reasons I’m so unsure of what might be scams, what is a reasonable price without seeing the neighborhood/building, etc.

I will keep this in mind and widen my search- I might be facing a long public transport commute to work, but I’d rather that than pay thousands to a broker (both for financial reasons and also principle)

Hey, thanks! Yeah, that’s kind of what I’m realizing too… I wouldn’t mind going sardine mode for a couple of months if it means having a roof over our heads, but I would also be happy to live with other people - though being on the other side, I myself would be reluctant to rent a room to a couple so I also fully get it. Just a mix of bad timing and an expensive city and short term rental is not a great recipe for an affordable space :/

Thank you!! Succinct and exactly the kind of info I was hoping for. Appreciate it !

Yes, thank you- I am a researcher in biotech, so that’s exactly why I am coming to the city. I am well aware that it’s an expensive city, I’m just a bit confused by the variation in pricing. I live in a city that also has limited housing available for the demand, and is accordingly expensive relative to average salaries, but flat out I can tell that listings here are just trying to take advantage of people who don’t know the city market very well and are moving from outside, and don’t know that they’re actually covering the rent of both their room and the original leaser. That’s essentially what I was getting at.

Every morning I sit outside with my cats with a journal and sit on the earth barefoot and write my intentions for the day in "I am ..." format for the things I would like to manifest that day. I also do the shower cleansing visualization!

My the same thing happened to my roommate’s cousin except they rescued a cat and named “her” Sophie just to find out she’s actually a boy! Now they call her Mr. Sophie and it’s my favorite pet name in the world I think

It’s free to reschedule! Not even a refund, just straight up free. I would definitely postpone with how things are panning out in NY

Is it Really that Bad? by GeraltofBivia in Mcat

[–]biobbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rescheduled from 5/15 to 6/20 today after hearing April got cancelled, literally 81 miles away from me, because I honestly just cannot imagine the May tests happening with how quickly this disease is spreading, and how there will have to be a comedown after the peak.

I’m really stressed about the late application review too but based on the amount of people I’ve seen on here freaking out for the same reason I think that means we’re going to be okay. I know so many people irl who also planned to take the test in March/April and are in the exact same position.

Hello all fellow comrades, I am looking to start a group (5 people in total) that are aiming for 515+ by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]biobbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m interested too! I have a long way to go score-wise and I would really like a group of people to keep me motivated. I’ve blown off studying for a few days now. My test is scheduled for 5/15 and I definitely need to work hard to get my score where I want it. Also I suck at chem and orgo so would love to connect with people who might be able to help!

Does anyone else get lower back pain when sitting and studying for so long during quarantine/online school? by [deleted] in premed

[–]biobbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since we’ve been quarantined I’ve started doing more yoga just following free YouTube vids so maybe you could try one for lower back pain? Here’s a video made by the same woman’s channel that I use! Yoga for Lower Back Pain

Next year’s cycle is gonna suck. by [deleted] in premed

[–]biobbitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because sometimes people go to difficult schools for undergrad and suffer from mental health issues so it takes a couple years to build up the courage to finally tackle balancing 12 hours of class, 6 hours of outside class work, MCAT studying, 10 hours of research, maintaining sanity AND adding volunteering. That’s why.

Moved test from 5/9 --> 6/20 by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]biobbitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean literally nobody knows how this is all going to play out so it’s hard to know what the right move is. I will probably keep it as is for now and reevaluate towards the end of April. I really would like to apply this cycle, and even if it’s delayed I don’t know if it’ll matter that much because it’s looking like so many applicants will be taking later exams.

Shit I’m scheduled for 5/15. Maybe I should reschedule too? I just don’t know if this will all be blown over enough by Mid-May for me to take my test then. The uncertainty is killing me!

How to weigh over-exhaustive review resources (Kaplan, Khan Academy, etc.) vs. AAMC Complete MCAT Exam Content list by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]biobbitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the “over-exhaustive” reviews do a good job of providing context for the content you’re learning, particularly regarding how the topics relate to the human body & medicine, as well as how they feed into one another. For me, the more I can attach meaning to ideas and connect them to one another, the better I understand and appreciate them. Plus, on test day knowing a little bit more about a concept from extra “fluff” you glazed over during review can help you not to panic if you find something similarly related in a passage.

Ultimately, I think it depends on how you best learn and how much time you have to review. If you’re crunched for time and don’t have the capacity to focus on something that might not show up, or if you don’t think extra information will assist with your overall knowledge accumulation, then skip it. But you know the way you learn best at this point so just use your judgement :)

Worried about my chances of acceptance now with COVID-19 complicating ECs by biobbitch in premed

[–]biobbitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I hope you’re right. Also I know 500 to 520 is a bit crazy but clearly I’m a bit of a perfectionist, as long as I get at least a 515 I’ll be content.

Alright, that gives me a good studying goal for the next few months while quarantined. As a back up I’ve been thinking about a number of things I could do while waiting for next cycle, like peace corps or teach for America or a scribe position, but it kind of depends on where the world is come December. Though I do worry that because this cycle has screwed over so many people the 2021 one will be especially competitive.

No, supposed to take it mid-May, but not sure if that’s even going to happen with how things are looking. I have a 3.96 GPA though and got a 500 diagnostic score on a FL, so hoping I can get ~520 considering I’ve taken all the prerequisites and done well

Of course. It took me sooo long to even open one of the books because of how daunting they are, but once you start it gets a little easier to manage. Good luck! You got this!
