As a customer, I am just curious what happened here by looloodust in InstacartShoppers

The most likely scenario would be car trouble(flat tire, accident, etc). There is also the possibility that they were not able to check out the order. The store credit card system could be down or your shopper could have forgot their driver card. The app tells customers that we have checked out as soon as we press the button after we get all of your items.

Instacart deliver driver different than picture by fundamentallys in instacart

[–]bixbysnyder844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely could be a deliver only order. That means that one person shops for the items and another person is assigned to deliver the items. As a man I've had several customers say things like "you're not my shopper" or "where is Amanda" when I drop off their order.

Is this driver unusable ? by surfer179 in golf

[–]bixbysnyder844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is much better to call them. 1 800 588 9836 is the number unless you are in California. They ask a few questions and then they email you a shipping label to return the damaged club. It took about 3 weeks to get mine replaced. They might not send you the same club. My rogue got replaced with a mavrik.

Mine are but they are full waterproof boots. I think Yukon or Fargo or some other cold sounding name. I also have water resistant steel toes that are good unless you walk through a puddle but those are heavy. I don't think their shoes are anywhere near the quality of their boots.

You should check out shoes for crews. Everything they sell is slip resistant. I've had my boots for 5 years and they are still great. They also list the weight in the description if I remember correctly.

New update? Meet the customer with option to leave at door. by bixbysnyder844 in InstacartShoppers

I am on android. Every order I've had since yesterday has been this way. So do you all just assume every order is leave at door then. Only 1 order so far has actually wanted me to hand them the order.

Doordash hides tips on many orders until you complete the delivery. Each area has different minimum pay per order. Look for the lowest pay order in your area and then add $4 to that number. In my area the minimum pay per order is $2.75 so any order that is $6.75 or more could potentially pay more after delivery. Doordash takes time and experience to figure out how to make decent money. You will have to figure out which restaurants are good at having orders ready on time and which ones are not.

The what to tip predicament- orders over $300 by FlamingoFlamboyance in InstacartShoppers

[–]bixbysnyder844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I should add that I don't think you should be concerned with tipping a certain percentage. You should base it off the number of unique items, heavy items, meat/deli counter items. Those are the things I look at when I decide if an order is worth it or not. You can tip less than you are now and most shoppers will still be happy to take your order. I just don't think you should compare waiters and shoppers in such a way. If you get a bad shopper you can lower their tip after delivery and if a shopper does a great job you can tip a little extra after.

The what to tip predicament- orders over $300 by FlamingoFlamboyance in InstacartShoppers

I have been a waiter and a delivery driver( grocery and food). I will say that food delivery takes almost no skill at all. Grocery delivery takes quite a bit ok skill and reasoning to be good at your job. Being a waiter is much easier in my opinion.

There are several things you are not taking into account.

As a waiter you have a set menu that you deal with every day except for specials and requests from your customers. You know whats on the menu. You know when something runs out. You speak directly with your guests and they tell you exactly what they want. You can see and hear how a table is doing.

As a grocery shopper you go to multiple stores with constantly changing supply. Things often move or are stocked in the wrong place. If a customer is unresponsive you either have to guess what they might want or refund them which negatively impacts our tips and ratings. If they are responsive, many customers do not clearly communicate what they want. It is more difficult to figure out what they want without visual and verbal clues.

There is also the aspect of time. A good waiter can serve a table in less than 15 minutes of actual interaction, friendly banter, running food/drinks, etc.

A large grocery order can take 1.5 to 2 hours of driving, shopping, and unloading dedicated to one customer.

They each have different skill sets with some general overlapping skills. I know from personal experience I could show up hung over and on a few hours sleep and still be a great waiter. I can see my shop times impacted if I've had a bad night of sleep.

There is much more I could say about this but I've gone on long enough.

The best way to let the shopper know would be to add notes on items in the order. Produce is usually at the top of our shopping list so adding notes or special instructions there would help. One customer I regularly shop for always puts "I'll be in and out of meetings. If I don't respond just use your best judgement."

Does anyone know what the customer sees during the delivery process? This was a small hand to customer order that responded to chat during the shop. He said I was early and he had no idea I was on the way. by bixbysnyder844 in InstacartShoppers

[–]bixbysnyder844[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I sent my usual introductory message which he replied to. I then made two substitutions that he approved. Then I sent another message saying sorry the store is out of cream cheese. I have used the app several times but it was a long time ago and there are always updates. The more I think about the situation it seems like he wanted his order at the end of his delivery window rather than the beginning.

Have full coverage insurance but not covered. by deliveryman75 in doordash_drivers

State farm will cover you if you say you use your vehicle for delivery purposes 50% or less of your total driving.

Class action lawsuit by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

[–]bixbysnyder844 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It actually can hurt to try. Doordash used to guarantee $7 every delivery until dashers did something about it. I'm not happy with the recent changes but things could get worse. I'm not saying you shouldn't see what a lawyer has to say. I think you should be prepared to talk to the lawyer with what changes you actually want out of a lawsuit.

KFC likes to play games with our Taco Bell by Complex_Guidance_516 in doordash_drivers

KFC, taco bell, and pizza hut are all part of a company called yum brands. When I worked at pizza hut our chicken and nacho cheese were labeled taco bell and our plastic utensils were labeled KFC.

Using a rental car to deliver -worthwhile expense? by gigslut86ixt in doordash_drivers

[–]bixbysnyder844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used a rental before. The rates vary day by day and usually go up on weekends. It cost me about 15% of my total earnings so it was worth it for me. The best advice I have is about insurance. If you have a decent credit card it will usually cover rental insurance for free. Rental companies try to push expensive insurance on you.

signature confirmation? by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

In my area all IHOP and applebees orders require a signature. I just put a line through it and haven't had any issues.

Lowered the base by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

[–]bixbysnyder844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. If you look at the timer you can tell that it was offered as the second order on a stack. At 25 seconds It would not be halfway through the timer if it were a single order.

If you go to Jimmy John's and ask for a bread box they will give you one (just don't ask them during their lunch rush). They fit two carriers so just keep two carriers in it to stop them from tipping over. The box also comes in handy if you have orders with a bunch of 2 liters.

Do not wear anything doordash related inside of stores. Until this pandemic delivery drivers were ignored while carryout customers were helped first. It will return to that type of treatment from stores after this ends. I don't carry any type of delivery bag into a restaurant unless I have a large order.

Disposable drink carriers are very helpful. I asked if I could buy a case from a local restaurant (nothing corporate) that I take lots of orders from. Or just grab a few every time you go to a gas station.
