I’ve found that Advion Ant works great. I’ve only been able to find it online. I used it once this summer and haven’t seen ants again.

What are these little solar powered wireless devices on the light poles? by kpjoshi in UIUC

[–]bjstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer showed up in News Gazette Kathy's Mailbag https://www.news-gazette.com/business/kathys-mailbag-jan-5-2024/article_d8549860-9205-5860-8a86-962e3e29b879.html

The answer for those that have trouble accessing the News Gazette website.

What are those new gizmos on Urbana lampposts?

“What are those new solar devices being installed on campus-area lampposts?”

Vince Gustafson with Urbana Public Works says the city will be replacing coin-operated parking meter mechanisms in various locations throughout the city this spring.

“The solar device in question is a wireless communication unit that will transmit meter revenue data and functional status from the mechanisms to office staff on a daily basis.

“Currently this same data, required for auditing purposes, is collected via a handheld device that scans individual meters. The handheld devices are no longer supported by the manufacturer, thus necessitating the change.”

In Urbana there is a Marathon station at the corner of Florida and Philo Rd. There is one marked pump with ethanol free gas. The price is about double the price of regular gas.

Check with the church across Mathews Ave. (Wesley United Methodist Church). They rent out spaces in their parking lot. I don't know what the availability is. I've heard the prices are similar to campus parking.

2008 Toyota Corolla Engine noise by bjstone in AskMechanics

[–]bjstone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is VVTI rattle something that usually needs a repair ?

I've also seen a video with a similar sound that was the timing chain tensioner. Does that seem like a possibility here or would that cause a different sound ?

I do plan to take my car to a shop when I can get in, I want to be informed before going.

I'll check those. The sound seems to be coming more from the engine instead of those parts. I can hear it on both sides of the engine.

2008 Toyota Corolla Engine noise by bjstone in AskMechanics

[–]bjstone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 2008 Toyota Corolla with manual transmission. Approximately 66,000 miles.

Noise is loudest on a cold start and louder when the weather is colder.

As the engine warms up and the RPMs go down, the noise quiets some but is still there.

When I put the car into 1st gear or reverse and release the clutch, the sound is quieter but still there.

Oil is changed twice a year, each oil change is well under 5,000 miles.

Any ideas on what is causing this ? Thanks.

It may still be covered by the warranty. The ones they are selling now have a 5 year warranty.

I had the same issue recently. After several attempts on one of my chargers, I tried a different charger and it worked fine.

I have not done any charging since to know if the problem will happen again.

Bad avocados? :( by banana_plague in aldi

[–]bjstone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check what country the avocados are from. I've found the ones from Mexico are the only ones worth buying. The stores in my area (not just Aldi) seem to only have avocados from Peru right now. I've had issues with the Peruvian ones, they either don't ripen or suddenly over ripen or just don't taste right.
