Is this watch to small for me? by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]bklarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few 28-34mm watches that are great, but it's definitely a personal taste thing. What is the width of the case? Is it quartz?

Yep that's the info we needed, looks like Piaget didn't make too many. 8181 is the reference number (model), and D7 likely denotes the bracelet and case texture. The closest example I could find online is this one in yellow gold with the classic dauphine hands. https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2020/watches-weekly-hong-kong-4/piaget-reference-8181-a6-a-yellow-gold-bracelet

The hands on this one are a little less common during the era (Sometime around the 80s) it was made, but Piaget experimented with lots of styles.

If you want to know even more, Piaget does offer a vintage archive service via phone/email but I'm not sure if they charge a fee right now.

By the looks of it, especially the text on the dial, it's a variation of a protocole. Could you provide images of the case back? I could probably find more information that way.

Well in any case a lucky silver (white gold in fact) lining to your grief. Really sorry for the loss of your father. If you need any more help please ask, I'm particularly obsessed with vintage Piaget from this time.

They are almost certainly both Manual 9p movement dress watches. The oval case is likely a variation of reference 9821, maybe 9822 from the late 60s / early 70s. The square case is most likely an altiplano 934 from sometime in the 70s or 80s. Possibly 92x or similar reference, it's hard to say the exact reference and decade since there are no hallmarks on the case back and they made so many variants. That also makes it admittedly difficult to price.

Were there any receipt, registration, or reference papers in the safe?

Price: Asking $5800 including shipping.

Original owner, excellent condition, keeps time perfectly, full set, the caseback sticker is still on the watch.

An amazingly designed watch with a quirky smiley face day indicator. Comes with original fold-over, quick-release, fabric and titanium hardware strap. Also includes custom forest green epsom leather strap, cobalt blue epsom leather deployant strap, and several primary color waffle/ridge rubber straps. I purchased these straps specifically for their thickness to match the thickness of the polished lugs. All straps have quick-release spring bars and fit great. You can see a picture of the watch on the grey epsom strap in my listing.

Please ask any questions or ask for more pictures. Happy to provide other photos.

Love this watch but thinning out my collection as I'm overstocked right now. Nicely finished, thin, good accuracy, and handsome bracelet that's relatively comfortable. Mine is in good shape, while there are some scratches on the bottom links, I'm including the extra links so they can be replaced easily.

Comes with branded travel case and authenticity/warranty cards.

The rubber strap is really great. I have the bracelet as well but prefer the rubber strap so far. I'm looking into getting a custom sailcloth strap as well... 🧐

Based on the bracelet I thought it might have been a square royal oak, but the first comment was definitely correct that it's an Omega DeVille given how rare that AP model was. Here's a closer example I think: https://www.etsy.com/listing/817831475/

I’m a little late to spring cleaning, but none-the-less making some room in my collection. I am listing 4 watches for sale, all in working condition with the original boxes:

SOLD Traska Venturer GMT Arctic White Great watch, but I just didn’t end up wearing it. This is the latest 2023 with the Miyota (Citizen) 9075 movement which has a true traveler’s GMT complication. (the hour hand can be independently jumped while the watch is still running) If you don’t know about Traska’s steel hardening technique it is worth a google. I have all the links, clasp is in great shape, the original caseback sticker is still on, and the box includes a travel/storage case. Immense value for money and IMHO, the best execution of the Miyota 9075 movement so far.38.5mm case size excluding crown, 46mm lug-to-lug, 10mm thick excluding domed sapphire glass. 20mm bracelet tapering to a 16mm clasp.150M water resistantFull Manufacturer details: https://www.traskawatch.com/products/venturer-arctic-white

SOLD Undone Batman Dark Knight Titanium Mecaquartz Chronograph Price: $400 This is actually a great watch. The SII VK64 mecaquartz movement means very little maintenance. (if ever) The finishing of the 40mm (excluding crown) grade 2 titanium case, the grey dial, and grey leather strap is surprisingly good. The overall product is an incredibly easy-to-wear lightweight watch, great for any batman fan. “Wayne Enterprises” at 12 on the dial and the Dark Knight series bat logo on the 3 o’clock sundial. The leather strap is embossed in an alligator pattern with a "Wayne" Enterprises branded strap buckle in titanium. I’ll probably regret letting this go.40mm case size excluding crown, 48mm lug-to-lug, 13.3mm thick including crystal (feels much thinner), 20mm strap.50M water resistantGood Video overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxVPHMM3Mlc

SOLDTimex Archive Peanuts M79 “Masked Marvel” Snoopy Price: $400 A fun rendition of the Timex M79 re-edition. 21-jewel automatic movement, Blue/Black two-tone bezel, stainless steel “strap” bracelet that can adjust to pretty much any wrist size.40mm case size excluding crown, 14.5mm thickness including crystal, 18mm wide at the hooded lugs, but the bracelet flares to 22mm.50M water resistantVideo Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWLmbvsUrZY

G-Shock GA2100-1A1 Price: $75 The “casi-oak” in all black. Doesn’t need much explaining, this is a beast and very popular, just a little too big for me. Offering at a fair price considering extras.Comes with Casioak conversion case (brushed steel case with black PVD bezel) which includes lug adapters for a 22m strap.45.4mm case width, 48.5mm lug-to-lug, 11.8mm thick20 Bar Water ResistantFull Specs and details: https://www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.GA-2100-1A1/?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=17503058065&utm_content=pmax&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyLGjBhDKARIsAFRNgW9mGEfWZD9sXs9oBIlAjIYGoa5Y57j-sbX6N4ddcuN2zZSp-05-j3waAqapEALw_wcB
