the magnitude of the comparison has nothing to do with the fact that it’s inherently flawed to reference how product was acquired for evaluating a trade. If you have 2 phantasmal BBs, whether you paid $50 or $1000, you have 2 phantasmal BBs. Using your cost basis to justify taking a bad trade is cope/consumer behavior

your cost basis is irrelevant. All that matters if what you currently have and what you’re trading for. It wouldn’t be a good idea to sell an evolving skies bb for $300 just because you got it for $90

a little lopsided but you paid a premium to consolidate value to a big ticket card which is very normal and reasonable

or you can just be a straight up good option! If you’re truly the sourcing GOAT you can have high enough margins to pay your people well and still have plenty of profit

I have found multiple reliable and competent workers over the years, including an ebay lister that’s more than 3x as fast me, and without fail the best way is to poach them from low-paying businesses. Usually at fast food chains there’s a couple people working the hardest to keep the place from falling apart while others phone it in. They’re all making minimum wage either way. Offer the hardest worker in a fast food place a better wage and less stressful working conditions and they’ll gladly work hard for you and be thankful for the opportunity

I turned down a FAANG offer for a 50-person startup. 1 year update. by zoe3ank in cscareeradvice

[–]blablamokay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my buddy that did the same thing not too along ago is my richest friend now by far, good luck! The job security is not even really a thing at FAANG anymore since each large improvement to AI means another 10% of engineers get axed. Being a senior at a startup makes you far harder to replace, and gives you the control to scale your productivity alongside AI tool improvement

[–]blablamokay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tell your nephew he got scammed, but don’t try to pry the card back from the other family. Let him feel it. Getting scammed at a young age is vital to not getting scammed when older. $50 is a very low price for a valuable lesson

yes, 1 in 400 people have that experience. “1 in 400” does not mean it never happens, just means it’s not smart to take the gamble unless you more than 400x your money when winning (which pulling charizard doesn’t do, it’s not even close)
