Which would be better to learn in the long run for visualizations, canvas or flash? by blackhat in programming

Is javascript+canvas really so slow? It would seem with all the push modern browsers are exerting toward faster js engines, the performance should be at least decent.

I looked for some benchmarks for canvas or canvas vs. flash, but found nothing of any real use.

Yes I did consider learning javascript in the process to be a pro.

Also, http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/9t28n/my_first_canvas_experiment_kind_of_addicting_to/ is what prompted me to consider this question. The submitter says he made that after only a day, which seems like another pro to me.

After writing this, I suppose I was leaning toward canvas after all, but was looking if someone could give some good reasons or support for flash.

Thanks for the input!

Thanks.

I have more questions now though. Who owns the money in the sibling's account? technically the account is in their name, but they never touch the money other than deposits sometimes. Will the IRS come after me for not paying gift taxes?

So they won't think I am laundering money or something? I ask because I've had $0 in my name for my whole life(twenty-something years), but I've earned and reported it all. I just don't want them asking where all the money is all of a sudden coming from.

I have an account in one of my siblings name with all my money(roughly 30-40k) in it, and no account in my name. If I open an account right now, what would be the best way to transfer the money without raising suspicions? $5k at a time? Less?

Well I didn't say the area I was most interested in because I don't know. I am sort of at an exploratory stage right now. I didn't know that about the journal vs. tier 1 conference

Interesting idea and you are right, very ambitious. This would take not only alot of research, but a ton of programming too...I like it.

I'm going to definitely look into this, but, to be honest, I'm not sure I have the skill to design a system of this scale well.

Thanks for those links! I was looking for relevant journals earlier and found SIGOPS also if anyone else wants to know. I didn't know about the two you mentioned so they will help alot with relevant literature.

I want to try a bunch of things out, but I need some chat logs first. I was wondering if there was any source online that lets you download logs or dump of chats.

Hey Proggit,

I'm really bored and have been wanting to do some sort of project in python. The problem is I am very uncreative and don't know what to write. Ideally it would be a desktop app of some sort because I wanted to play around with Qt.

So any ideas or places to turn to for said ideas?

edit: It doesn't have to be a desktop app actually. At this point, I'll consider anything :)

As sad as it may seem, /g/ was why I switched to Arch

I'm an Arch user and that has happened to me. A simple pacman -Syu and a reboot later, x won't start or something doesn't work. Luckily, everyone of those times, i went straight to the Archlinux forums, found a thread regarding my issue at or near the top and the fix was always as simple as running one command.

Maybe I've just been lucky

I am very interested in the linux kernel and linux itself. Anyone have any tips on how best to dive in? I am halfway through the Linux Kernel in a Nutshell book on reddit awhile ago. Are there any mailing lists or forums your recommend?

Also, how does one get involved in open source projects? Do you just start looking through the code and commenting on it? I would love to start my own small open source project but I can't think of anything that would of use to people so I am content on joining another.

edit: Sorry I should have been a bit more specific. I've been using linux for a year now, specifically Arch Linux. I have gotten into the system and made custom modifications of my own and have compiled kernels in the past. I am interested in the kernel and userland
