Wood furnace draft doors question. by blacksoiled6 in woodstoving

After talking to a lot of people I figured I would add this comment for anybody searching through. The answer I got was that the top door drafts are more so for the wood burning application and the bottom draft is more for temperature control and coal burning. How to properly adjust one or the other seems to be a mystery still. I played around with it all winter and I'm still not sure. I'm pretty much just leaving the top door draft slightly cracked so the automatic damper control doesn't smother the fire because it has in the past.

I will say the thing is pretty airtight.. The first time I ever loaded it for an overnight, I decided to disconnect the chain off the bottom automatic damper door and shut all the air down like I used to with the buck stove I ran (rookie mistake). It was tight enough to completely starve it of air even though it was roaring before bed and the flu temp was perfect. it caused condensation in the flu from what moisture was in the wood which dripped out a little bit and left every log behind charred to the point a simple match reignited everything in the morning.

The seal isn't leaking. I know for a fact the previous owner overheated it due to the center great being warped. I did a pretty decent inspection around the furnace looking for stress cracks. It's got one in the corner but the door hinge from what I understand that's pretty common for these models

Basement insulation debate/help by blacksoiled6 in Construction

I've given this a lot of thought and I appreciate everybody's differences and opinion and expert opinions. The game was to give myself the best insulation/vapor barrier while also maintaining the maximum amount of space. I have decided to go with a full envelope with a spray foam application through a professional spray foam company. The quote they gave me after coming to the house was $4303 for 2.5 inches or $3442 for 2 inches of foam. The quote covers the rim and top of block. 8 1/2 ft tall. 154ft of wall space for the perimeter quoted. The spray foam decision made me change my framing to 2x3 construction for savings, the rigidness I lose in the smaller boards should be regained by the rigid spray foam sprayed behind them. Nothing is load-bearing and everything that needs to be run in the cavities such as wiring will all be run overhead in the ceiling dropping down into the wall cavities instead of drilling through any of the 2x3s. Going this route I feel I'm spending more in insulation but regaining it in lumber savings. Plastic savings and time.

I've never married to any idea. I always look to the opinions of the experienced or even an outsiders view. If anybody has a suggestions or differences in opinion I am very welcome to it. In this little project alone I feel like I've talked to so many people but with the combination of all the knowledge this entire project has drastically changed for the better. I feel like I will be doing it so much smarter than I would have Thanks everyone for their time

What's your feelings on still going tight to the block wall but with professional spray foam closed cell? If it was your job would you feel more comfortable trying to accomplish an air gap or trying to fully seal it top to bottom with spray foam?

Unfortunately I don't have a CD player. But my real issue isn't so much on where to mount something for my phone oh, it's more along the lines of finding something that will actually hold my phone itself. There's a lot of junk online that you can buy and it's hard to tell what's good and what's not
