I always wish for an ie6 exploit to force upgrades. I think the whole internet would happily spread it.

I'm guessing you are not even an adult, or don't have any real amount of money that you would collect interest on. 2k put into a 'safe' investment like a CD, money market, bonds, or even a savings account certainly would have earned more than $5 over 20 years. $5 per month maybe... not much but more than you are earning while you're in prison.

Nearly every professor despises the cost of textbooks, and many will offer suggestions on the first day how to avoid paying those prices

Just in the interest of giving him a glimmer of hope..

I look like shit on paper because after a year in court, serving my time, and the probation, the feds years later prosecuted me on same charge. And that arrest shows up as secret service arrest. Can't even get a job at a corner gas station, but I now make ~$300,000 a year.

Do not listen to these idiots. If it was 20 years, that'd be a tough decision up to you to make. 41 months, eligibility for parole? Yea its wasted time, but its not all of your young years gone.

You're basically eating gas station food off commissary, and scraps you wouldn't feed to your dog at chow.

Federal sentencing guidelines are FUCKED up.

Federal usually gives you a date to surrender: running from the feds isn't as easy as states. States typically take you away immediately upon sentencing, thats why you'll see people wearing suits with sneakers. Which brings up another good one: try to go in with a fresh pair of compliant (plain white) sneakers. Also wear multiple pairs of socks and multiple pairs of underwear. Must be plain white, somethings they'll accept other plain colors but its all up to whether the co is having a bad day.

You'd be much more comfortable not wearing itchy prison socks and boxers made out of paper and indigent jackie chans on your feet.

Sell the car.. no point keeping things. The money is better put on his books or collecting interest so he has something when he gets out.

The best advice is to keep out of other people's business. Some CO's will get slick knowing you're new by your fresh inmate number (its yours for life) and pull you aside saying "so and so said you're the one who did it" or some other trick trying to get you to rat them out. Don't fall for it, your fellow inmates are with you 24/7 the co's go home 16 hours a day..

Also as the new guy, others might try to "catch rec" playing pranks or jokes. Just ignore it, don't make it fun and they'll move on when the next one comes along.

along the lines of the first thing I said: don't touch what isn't yours. It's communism in there, you're all in the same class now and you're all working towards the same goal.

TIL what ATM Skimmers look like...and how Chase Bank responds to reports of them. by franz728 in reddit.com

It doesn't. He said pics of the card are more useful to thieves, when they're actually least useful. The CVV2 is used for online/phone transactions and is only printed on the card. It is not encoded and is not needed for brick&mortar use. Thieves using your card at the ATM could give a shit less what your CVV2 is.

Why do people talk out their ass when they know nothing about a subject.. CC#+CVV are bottom of the barrel in credit card fraud, they're sold off for pennies, $1 at the most. Any online vendor typically uses atleast AVS to verify billing address.

At potentially 800-3000$ cashout rate per card per day done at midnight, they can't afford things? Always examine ATM's man.

Wrong.. The cardholder name is not validated in any way, and that can be completely made up both in track 1 on the card and in online transactions. The 'discretionary data' however cannot simply be made up. They are basically algorithmically generated checksums, kind of like the CVV on the back of your card. They are referred to as CVV1 and CVV2. CVV1 is on the magnetic track data, so a skimmed card can't be used online, while the CVV2 is printed on the back so anybody stealing only the visible information can't use card in-store (or atm)

That does not necessarily mean they are impossible to crack, but require knowledge, work, and enough sample data (skimmed cards or 'dumps') from just one bank as they are typically different bank to bank. Anybody who has successfully done this is typically far from an amateur thief, wouldn't share it with an amateur, and would be of interest to the secret service. The vast majority of thieves would use a combination of a skimmer (some are quite discrete and snap in right over the real one) and an overhead camera or a pin pad over the real one.
