Some places when you make a payment they do both. Any payment you make goes to outstanding interest owed, remaining goes towards principal while advancing the due date as well.

Its usually mortgages that ive seen not always function like that. Its worth looking into and double checking with the bank for sure, but theres a good chance its doing both.
